Pioneer Health Resources (PHR)The Basics

Frustrated with the lack of quality health care available to those with mental health issues and disabilities, Don Gross founded Pioneer Health Resources (PRH) in 2006. Serving the Idaho community from five different locations across the state, Pioneer Health Services offers Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and regular outpatient treatment services for substance abuse, in addition to the other mental health services it provides.

Treatment and Staff

Substance abuse treatment programs are available at two of the PHR locations, in Garden City and Nampa. Although both offer an IOP and regular outpatient program, the schedules for meetings and therapy sessions are different. The takeaway is that a broad range of treatment topics are covered at each location. There is no detox, but ample dual diagnosis support, gender-specific care and adolescent programming. PHR does not base its care on the 12 steps, but rather evidence-based treatment practices.

At Garden City, Adult Early Recovery Skills is Mondays from 10 am to 12 pm, Adult Relapse Prevention is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Adult MRT is on Thursdays and Adult Anger and Stress Management is on Fridays. From 12 to 2 pm on Mondays, it’s Adult Rational Thinking, Adult Dual Diagnosis Therapy on Tuesdays and Women’s Issues on Wednesdays. Life skills group is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 pm. From 4 to 6 pm, it’s MRT on Mondays, Rational Thinking on Tuesdays, Aftercare/Re-Integration on Wednesdays and Relapse Prevention on Thursdays. From 6 to 8 pm, there’s Adult Relapse Prevention on Mondays and Adult Rational Thinking on Wednesdays. The adolescent group is held every day from 4 to 6 pm Mondays through Thursdays.

At the Nampa location, from 12 to 2 pm, Adult MRT is Mondays, Adult Relapse Prevention on Tuesdays, Adult Co-Occurring Trauma on Wednesdays, Adult Rational Thinking on Thursdays and Adult Anger and Stress Management on Fridays. Every day from 2 to 4 pm, there’s Life Skills, except on Thursday when it’s Women’s Issues. From 4 to 6 pm on Mondays it’s Adult MRT, on Adult Relapse Prevention on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Adult Rational Thinking on Thursdays.

Individual therapy sessions are scheduled separately between client and counselor. The staff at PHR consists of LPCs, CADCs and LCSWs.

Extras

In addition to their substance abuse treatment program, PHR offers a variety of mental health services for those suffering from ailments besides addiction, including a psychosocial rehabilitation program, juvenile tracker services and medication management.

In Summary

Although Pioneer Health Resources only offers outpatient treatment, it is very organized and specialized. Clients are working with trained staff members and an individualized schedule, where they can pick and choose the therapies that are best suited to their recovery.
