Recovery Works Elizabethtown is a Kentucky-based chemical dependency facility providing both residential and outpatient treatment for adults. The residential program is located in the city of Elizabethtown, within the Fort Knox metropolitan area and provides detox.
A member of the Pinnacle Treatment Centers network, RWE is among a group of mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities spanning throughout Pennsylvania, Indiana, New Jersey, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. Pinnacle Treatment Centers was founded in 2006 and acquired facilities that have been open for more than four decades.
Accommodations and Food
RWE is an expansive campus with accommodations for a total of 48 men and women in separate buildings. The living quarters are similar to dormitories with some bedrooms sleeping up to seven residents in twin-sized beds. A transitional living house is also available for clients once they complete their residential stay.
Treatment and housing are both hosted on the same campus, allowing clients to shift easily between their rooms, treatment rooms and the cafeteria at meal time. There are TVs and common rooms for recreational use in each dormitory. Food is prepared in the kitchen by staff members and a rotation of residents, allowing clients to participate in preparing healthy meals that include typical American faire and comfort food. Coffee and tea is always available, as are snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Typical treatment time at RWE is 28 days. Residential treatment averages two to three weeks in total and outpatient usually fills the remainder of the time for a up to a full month. Clients enrolled in residential treatment attend five to six group sessions per day. Individual therapy is typically scheduled a couple times per week with each client’s primary counselor depending on the client’s plan.
Counselors utilize evidence-based treatment as well as 12-step framework. Clients enrolled in the outpatient track attend 12-step meetings to supplement their treatment. Therapeutic sessions include psychoeducation groups and alternative options including meditation classes, music therapy and art therapy. Clients are given time between groups for rest and recreational activities. The campus has recreational equipment for exercise.
Dual diagnosis support is offered to clients through medication management prescribed by psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners who have experience working with chemical dependency. Detox clients may be prescribed Suboxone or methadone for Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT). These clients are given special attention to ensure they are stabilizing and feeling comfortable on their medication.
Extras
The residential program helps the family to stay connected through visitation day every Friday and two calls per week. Family therapy may also be scheduled to work through any issues and to develop healthy communication skills. The first week, all clients are on blackout from communication.
Recreational activities are limited during the winter season, but during summer and spring, clients are taken outdoors for guided hikes and more. Clients are also encouraged to express themselves creatively through art and music therapy.
