Pine Ridge Treatment CenterPine Ridge Treatment Center Review

In Lucerne Valley, California, just 20 miles north of Big Bear, lies Pine Ridge Treatment Center, a 24 bed, co-ed facility offering treatment for men and women suffering from alcohol and drug addiction. Seated on 10 acres of land with dramatic and panoramic views of the high desert, Pine Ridge is part of a network of facilities that includes locations in Palm Springs, Victorville and San Bernardino.

Accommodations and Food

Pine Ridge is a rustic facility with few frills and a come-as-you-are philosophy. Sprawling ranch style “bungalows” are single or double occupancy; all are basic with single beds and little decoration.

Common areas where group meetings are held feel like traditional 12-step meeting rooms—all are cozy and low-ceilinged with well-worn but comfortable furniture. There are also banners emblazoned with the 12 steps, 12 traditions and other AA slogans decorating the walls. Unique to the Pine Ridge main meeting room are countless coffee mugs hanging from the ceiling, all tokens of recovery left by the fellows who came before.

The resident nutritional director provides health education and prepares meals with “emphasis on whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.”

Treatment and Staff

Recovery at Pine Ridge uses traditional modalities of treatment including individual and group therapy, family counseling and addiction education.

The director of Pine Ridge, Dr. Keith Simpson, is a public health doctor, president of the National Council of Alcoholism and has over 35 years of experience as a certified addiction counselor. Aside from his noteworthy credentials, all other staff members are professionally certified, with 12-step group experience and other intervention programs.

Individual counseling is used to determine the root triggers for each client’s addiction, and to develop unique plans of recovery for each individual. Medical evaluations, bio-psycho-social assessments, group therapy, family counseling, discharge planning and continuing care programs round out the 12-step based program.

For those who do not identify as addicts but who feel they may be alcohol or drug abusers, Pine Ridge also offers addiction education. After an initial five educational sessions, it is decided whether or not an additional five are required. The combined 10 sessions will satisfy industry and union requirements set by Substance Abuse Professionals or Employee Assistance Persons.

Extras

For the most part, things at Pine Ridge are fairly spartan. Still, it’s worth noting that Pine Ridge caters specifically to union workers, whether they’re from the railroad, food service or Teamsters.

In Summary

Pine Ridge boasts the natural beauty found in a California National Park as part of it program. This is a solid, 12-step focused facility for those ready to get and stay sober.
