Pierced Ministries and Rehab ServicesPierced Ministries and Rehab Services Review

Located between Winston-Salem and Greensboro in the small town of High Point, North Carolina, Pierced Ministries and Rehab Services offers an intensive, long-term Christian-based residential substance abuse program. Founded in 2008, the facility is a non-profit that relies on donations to offer a free recovery program for men over the age of 18.

Accommodations and Food

Set in a tidy renovated craftsman-style home in a nice neighborhood, the Pierced Ministries rehab program has room for 12 total residents at a time, frequently with a waiting list for admission. Clients share a double or triple occupancy room with roommates in dorm-style housing which features twin or bunk beds, basic furnishings and shared bathrooms in the hallways. The house also has space for GED programs and Bible study as well an on-site chapel.

The men take turns making meals with food they learn to budget, shop for and prepare themselves. Food is also often donated from local church organizations. Residents have three hot meals a day and eat together family-style in the dining room.

Treatment and Staff

The program at Pierced Ministries lasts nine months and requires the men to make a commitment to stay for the duration, build a relationship with Jesus and learn life skills for long-term recovery. Potential clients should not expect dual diagnosis support or medication management. Days are highly structured and filled with worship services, volunteering, Bible study and meals. Residents are expected to do work in the community, usually at the Pierced Ministries Thrift Store or some form of manual labor.

While the men do have individual therapy, these are typically with a pastor or peer counselor. Rather than traditional group therapy, group activities are largely concentrated on Christian principles. Residents are encouraged to refrain from discussing their pasts and there is no 12-step component of any kind at the facility.

There are no substance abuse professionals employed by Pierced Ministries. Instead, volunteer counselors and pastors run all daily activities at the facility.

Extras

There is no aftercare available, though Pierced Ministries does partner with local church organizations to find housing for clients in need upon completing the program.

GED classes are also offered with class time scheduled each day for clients in need of these services.

In Summary

Pierced Ministries and Rehab Services is an intense, Christ-centered program with an emphasis on religion as the solution to substance abuse issues. Potential clients should expect an environment that emphasizes prayer, Bible study and volunteer work in the community. Though it is not a traditional evidence-based rehab experience, Pierced Ministries may be a good choice for men looking for an affordable gender-specific Christian recovery program.
