The Basics
Phoenix of Health, LLC, has been providing the residents of western Maryland with outpatient substance abuse treatment for the last six years. Located in Hagerstown, Phoenix also offers several options of medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including Suboxone, methadone and Vivitrol, for opioid addicts, Phoenix also treats process addictions such as gambling.
Phoenix was founded by Dr. J. Ramsay Farah, who is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Farah is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and served as President of the Maryland Society of Addiction Medicine.
Treatment and Staff
Substance abuse treatment is offered at the standard outpatient level of care, with clients attending group therapy once or twice each week and individual therapy as-needed. The length of treatment plans vary, per the addiction and clients’ needs and goals. MAT clients attend therapy as long as they’re receiving medication, while non-opioid replacement clients may complete their treatment plans in a few months.
Phoenix’s treatment team includes LPCs, MSWs and LADCs in addition to its two physicians and nursing staff. Clinicians are experienced in treating co-occurring disorders and clients can receive medication management for mental health diagnoses. Therapy uses CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and groups usually have 10 to 12 participants. Group topics include Coping Skills, Addiction Education and Recovery Toolbox.
Phoenix encourages clients to attend peer support meetings if they’d think it beneficial to their treatment, and a peer support specialist helps clients locate meetings in the area, such as AA/NA and SMART Recovery.
Extras
Phoenix offers a family education group once a week and parenting support. For aftercare, the treatment team creates a schedule for on-going individual therapy.
