The Basics
Perkins Counseling Center is a comprehensive group practice comprised of 12 experienced professionals with a variety of different specialties to help individuals overcome a variety of behavioral and social problems.
PCC is located in the town of Wake Forest, North Carolina just North of the capital city of Raleigh. The substance abuse treatment program offered by PCC is exclusively outpatient and utilizes traditional therapeutic methods to treat a range of mental health disorders as well as addiction.
Treatment and Staff
Although the program at PCC is exclusively outpatient, the individualized treatment plans tailored for each client and the focus on raising self-esteem leads to high success rates of recovery. Treatment begins with an initial assessment and evaluation that determines an appropriate course of treatment as well as which counselor on the PCC staff would be the best fit.
Clients participate in both individual and family therapy that focuses on establishing a happy, healthy and functioning family system supportive of sobriety. Clients also partake in group therapy with discussion topics including time management, drug and alcohol education, anger and stress management, grief and loss, conflict resolution, life skills, relapse prevention, chemical dependency, guilt and shame. Additionally, there are process groups and sessions that focus on developing healthy self-esteem. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program, but attendance of community-based AA/NA meetings is strongly encouraged.
The staff at PCC consists of psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs, MSWs, and LMFTs.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse treatment, the collective of professionals on staff offer a variety of other counseling and rehabilitative services. Extra services include counseling for developmental disabilities, chronic pain, co-dependency, assertiveness training, depression, divorce recovery, grief and loss, relationships, school problems, anxiety, stress management and more.
PCC also offers animal therapy in the form of a Havanese dog named “Toby”. This hypo-allergenic breed is on-site to provide unconditional love and positive energy for clients as they work through intense emotional issues.
In Summary
PCC has a loosely structured basic outpatient program that places an emphasis on personal responsibility for recovery. Clients can continue with their regular life schedules while receiving treatment, giving them the opportunity to practice newly learned recovery skills in daily life.
