Minneapolis MinnesotaPeople, Inc. Huss Recovery Services Review

People, Inc. Huss Recovery Services was originally founded in 1969 by Reverend Harry Maghakian as a homeless shelter for men. In the years since, it has grown into a comprehensive behavioral health service provider with over 60 mental health services and programs.

Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the substance abuse treatment programs at People, Inc. are provided for adults 18 and over through Huss Center for Recovery, with both inpatient and outpatient care available. Treatment utilizes a Harm-Reduction Model and evidence based methods. Services are available to treat the whole family.

Food and Accommodations

Huss Center clients are accommodated in a renovated historic mansion a short distance from downtown Minneapolis. The Tudor-style brick manse holds 16 beds. The facility offers both double and single rooms with twin sized beds and a cabinet for personal belongings. There are communal bathrooms, a formal dining room, sitting areas and living rooms with cable TVs and an on-site exercise room. Additionally there are outside areas for leisure and meals are prepared in a fully equipped kitchen then enjoyed communally.

Treatment and Staff

The inpatient program at HCR is a structured program with an integrative and individualized approach to treatment. All therapies used in treatment implement CBT. Clients are initially assessed to determine how to best implement treatment and is continually reassessed throughout the program to modify treatment as needed.

All clients have individual therapy sessions at least once a week, group therapy sessions three times a day and daily educational lectures on how to have healthy relationships and life-skills. Family therapy sessions and treatment for co-occurring disorders can also be integrated into the program if required or desired. The psychiatric team also provides medication management and emergency services if needed. The 12 steps are not integrated into treatment, but recreational activities are arranged daily to encourage healthy hobbies and as an alternative form of therapy.

Outpatient treatment is also available with both basic outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program IOP. Treatment is the same as the residential track, but instead of a set structure the program is comprised of 10 treatment hours per week dependent upon the client’s schedule.

The staff at PIHRS consists of LADCs, an RN, a psychiatrist and LPCs.

Extras

The Huss Center for Recovery is only one branch of People, Inc. As a diverse behavioral health organization, a range of services are available including residential placement, child and family, community support, homeless, case management and clinical and training services.

In Summary

The Huss Center for Recovery at People, Inc. offers both inpatient treatment and an IOP to clients seeking substance abuse treatment. Both programs implement an integrative approach to recovery, utilizing a range of evidence based and alternative therapies. Twin-Cities area residents are also well served by a continuum of mental health care that treats the whole family system.
