The Basics
Founded in southern Kentucky in 1967, Pennyroyal Center provides a variety of services for substance abuse, mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities. In addition to two residential substance abuse treatment programs, Pennyroyal runs seven outpatient locations, serving eight counties. Treatment options include standard outpatient care, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with mandatory therapy and DUI, drug court and other court-ordered services.
Treatment and Staff
Therapy at Pennyroyal begins with an assessment, which determines the best course of treatment for each person. Walk-ins are performed Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11:00 am at the Hopkinsville, Greenville and Madisonville locations. Plans are individualized, so the duration may vary but programs are typically 16 weeks. During this time, IOP clients participate in group therapy three times each week and individual therapy once a week.
The MAT program helps clients coming off opiates using Methadone and buprenorphine. Like the IOP, this program consists of individual and group therapy, with additional case management and medication management services. Clients are required to comply with all recommended treatments, with the long-term goal to sustain recovery without MAT. Following completion this program, clients can transition into the IOP or be referred to community-based supportive services.
The treatment team is equipped to treat co-occurring disorders and staff psychiatrists are available for individual sessions. Therapy incorporates CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and explores how to handle triggers and build coping mechanisms for relapse prevention. Pennyroyal may also ask clients to attend 12-step meetings as part of their treatment. Clients can also be directed to sober living, vocational training and educational programs
The staff of the Pennyroyal locations includes doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors whose credentials include LCSW, CADC and MFT.
Extras
The Pennyroyal Center also offers KY Kids Recovery Program, which is a prevention program designed to reduce substance use among the youth of the Pennyroyal Region. This includes Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Trigg Counties. It uses evidence-based treatment practices and includes intensive individual and family therapy provided in the clinic, at school or in-home, depending on the identified needs.
