Penn Foundation Recovery Center is located about an hour from Philadelphia in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. Penn Foundation Recovery Center first started treating clients for addiction in 1985, and and was affiliated with the Grand View Hospital Crisis Division. The organization expanded over the years and the 10,750 square foot John W. and Emily Clemens Recovery Center opened in 2008.

Accommodations and Food

The Recovery Center consists of several buildings on a sprawling campus, with separate buildings for detox, inpatient and outpatient services. For the inpatient program, treatment and housing is in one building and can accommodate up to 55 residents at a time. Bedrooms are shared between two to three clients of the same gender in rooms with twin beds, and each room has its own bathroom. Besides rooms for therapy sessions, there is also a living room with a TV for recreational viewing. Clients are served breakfast, lunch and dinner cafeteria-style and the staff can make adjustments to meet each client’s dietary needs.

An individualized plan is developed for each clients and the duration of treatment varies depending on the person. Dual diagnosis support for mental health needs such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder will be addressed during this process. Once detox symptoms are stabilized, the client is encouraged to transition into the inpatient program, which uses a variety of therapeutic activities to develop sober life skills and to maintain motivation. There are 39 beds dedicated to the inpatient program, open to men and women over the age of 18.

After a client completes the inpatient program, they have the option to transition into either the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). IOP includes group and individual therapy for up to nine hours per week, in the morning, afternoon, or evening for adults. The PHP provides intensive, structured treatment which includes 30 hours per week of group, family and individual counseling with various forms of education and written exercises to accomplish the goal of stabilization. Sessions are held during daytime hours.

With a combination of CBT-based therapy sessions and required off-site 12-step meetings throughout the week, each client also has weekly meetings with their counselor and can request additional individual therapy sessions on an as needed basis. Personalized care is given to each client by the attentive staff, with approximately two clients for every staff member. The Recovery Center has a doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, LCSWs and a team of support staff to care for each client, with 24/7 care on-site.
