Founded in 1997, Peninsula Addiction Services is a Salisbury, Maryland organization that provides outpatient-based substance abuse services. The facility follows the disease-model concept of addiction and strongly emphasizes the philosophy of 12-step recovery.

Treatment and Staff

For clients in need, Peninsula Addiction Services offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), utilizing Zubsolve and Vivitrol and the process is overseen by the on-staff medical doctor. As a condition for receiving MAT, clients must attend one of the facility’s outpatient programs.

The most comprehensive of these is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which consists of three hours of group therapy four times a week. These sessions meet in the mornings from 10am to 1pm or in the evenings from 5 to 8pm. Clients participating in the IOP also typically have one individual session a week. These sessions rely on evidence-based treatment with an emphasis on CBT, with additional support offered to clients with a dual diagnosis.

Typically, the IOP lasts for six weeks, with clients then beginning a gradual step-down in treatment where they attend three group sessions a week for another six weeks, followed by two for another six weeks and so on. Clients who are participating in MAT usually conclude their program during this phase as well.

The final aftercare phase consists of one individual session a week, followed by one every two weeks and then sustained phone correspondence with one’s counselor for at least a year.

Staff includes a psychiatrist, LADCs and other Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Peninsula Addiction Services has a family program that meets every week onThursday nights.

Additional services include a peer counseling program that involves clients who have completed a primary care program and are active in local 12-step recovery, returning to the facility to lead groups wherein they detail their recovery experience.

In Summary

Clients considering Peninsula Addiction Services should expect a program with a sharp focus. These group and individual sessions emphasize CBT and 12-step work as the path to recovery. While there are resources at the facility for dual diagnosis treatment, this is not a major component of the program. At Peninsula Addiction Services, clients can expect a long-term, comprehensive IOP and MAT if needed.
