The Basics
Established in 2007, Peaceful Counseling Solutions is a Wausau, Wisconsin based non-profit which offers a wide variety of behavioral health options. Services include an outpatient treatment program for substance abuse which offers dual diagnosis support for those dealing co-occurring disorders. In 2013, the facility merged with Family Counseling Services to further extend its range of care to children and family members affected by substance abuse and mental health issues.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Peaceful Solutions Counseling begins with an intake evaluation at the downtown facility in Wausau. For those in need of a medical detox, Peaceful Solutions Counseling can refer them to an accommodating facility nearby, typically North Central Healthcare. Once stabilized, clients can begin in the outpatient program, which consists primarily of group therapy throughout the week and individual therapy sessions conducted as needed. In addition to the Addiction 101 group which serves as the base group for all clients, the facility also offers gender-specific groups which provide trauma-informed care and an OWI class for those who need to complete a DUI program as part of a court mandate.
Peaceful Solutions Counseling uses a CBT-based method of treatment with an emphasis on Motivational Interviewing (MI), though clients are also strongly encouraged to participate in local 12-step meetings. All group and individual sessions are led by LPCs or substance abuse counselors. As mentioned, Peaceful Solutions Counseling specializes in offering dual-diagnosis care. Four of the counselors on staff are dually licensed with specializations in both addiction and mental health. Still, clients wishing to see a psychiatrist or who are in need of medication management must be referred to another facility.
After 16 weeks in the outpatient program, clients generally begin an aftercare phase which consists of attending the facility’s relapse prevention group sessions and meeting with counselors when needed.
Extras
Those in the substance abuse outpatient program can also take advantage of a host of other resources offered by the Peaceful Solutions counseling facility. Among these is the SAFE program, a counseling and education-based track that helps clients who have a history of domestic violence. There’s also a special group for parents of teenagers struggling with addiction and an Employee Assistance Program for local businesses in need of providing recovery care for employees.
Peaceful Solutions Counseling also offers a wide variety of programs for children and adolescents in need of substance abuse or mental health counseling. These include the CHOICES program which focuses on prevention and risk assessment, the Butterfly program which offers counseling for children of divorcing parents ages six to 17 and the VOICES program which provides dual-diagnosis care for female adolescents ages 11 to 17.
