Peace of MindA Peace of Mind Sober Living Review

Founded in 2001 by mental health counselor Jennifer Marquecho Haulenbeck, A Peace of Mind Sober Living in Riverside, California offers two gender-specific sober living homes. Their mission is to help recovering alcoholics and addicts learn how to help themselves, whether they are coming out of detoxresidential treatment or prison, as long as they have the desire to stay clean and sober.

Accommodations and Amenities

A Peace of Mind Sober Living accommodates approximately fifteen women and twenty men. Single moms with children are also housed. Both houses are located on quiet residential streets. The female-only bungalow includes two kitchens, six bedrooms and four bathrooms. The male-only house includes ten bedrooms and five bathrooms. Both houses are in close proximity to downtown Riverside bus terminals and Riverside Community College.

Both homes are beautifully decorated. The interior of the men’s house has white walls and tiled floors, and includes a spacious kitchen with three refrigerators, a country-style dining room table, large living room and a laundry room. The women’s house has an elegant décor, complete with modern furnishings and hanging artwork, a spacious kitchen with desk for a house computer. Amenities in both houses include Wi-Fi, house computer, a phone with long distance calling and Cable TV. Residents in both houses are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation.

Rules and Regulations

Clients must have completed detox prior to entry. Length of stay is determined per a client’s needs. Weekly requirements for both the men and women include attending between three and five 12-step meetings (depending on their work status), performing household chores, actively working the steps with a sponsor and participating in weekly house meetings. The curfew is nine pm seven days a week. Clients interested in a faith-based approach are encouraged to attend Bible study and Church. Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted. At A Peace of Mind, there is a zero tolerance for those testing positive.

Extras

A Peace of Mind is a non-profit organization, which accepts donations. Additionally, the house is a member of the Sober Living Network.

In Summary

A Peace of Mind Sober Living is a great choice for men and women who are willing to go to 12-step meetings and be home early. This is not a great fit for night owls who will want to socialize past 9 pm, but Haulenbeck appears to has a loyal following and many of her former clients rave about how she has helped them get their lives back on track. For clients seeking a spiritual approach to their recovery, A Peace of Mind might just give them the serenity that they are looking for.
