The Basics
Payne County Youth Services, Inc was founded in 1972 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the home of Oklahoma State University. The CARF-accredited, non-profit organization offers outpatient substance abuse treatment services to adolescents.
Treatment and Staff
Designed for clients between the ages of 12 and 18, treatment consists of both group and individual counseling that uses evidenced-based practices, such as CBT and DBT, as well as education, peer sharing, anger management and relapse prevention. Treatment is offered in the afternoon and evening to accommodate academic schedules and mostly commences in a group setting with 10 to 15 clients. Individual therapy is scheduled based on the individual need of the client. The exact length and intensity of treatment is also dependent on this factor.
Although the organization is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA to supplement their recovery. Clients with a dual diagnosis are offered additional support through individual sessions with a mental health counselor.
The organization has a MD on staff that meets with clients regularly about their medical issues and the substance abuse counselors are all LPCs.
Extras
Payne County offers individual family therapy upon request and consent of the client. It also hosts teen parenting and anger management groups, as well as a transitional living program for the homeless.
