The Basics
Pathways Venice Beach is an intimate sober living home for a small group of women in Venice, California. Most recently, they opened another house in Oxnard. Their mission is to provide a holistic environment to clients in recovery from chemical dependency, co-occurring and eating disorders.
Accommodations and Amenities
Pathways Venice Beach accommodates six women in lavish single or double-occupancy rooms, while Pathways Oxnard lodges about five clients. A typical double in Venice Beach includes full-sized beds with red comforters, ornate nightstands and wooden dressers. Lavish red drapes cover the windows, adding a gothic ambience.
The Venice house includes a private garden, and a rustic tiled patio with wooden benches where clients can strum on a guitar or smoke a cigarette. The dining hall includes a Mediaeval-style dining room table and matching chairs. Adjacent to the dining room, is a comfortably furnished living area. At Pathways, the fully equipped kitchens are stocked with groceries and food. Since nutrition and healthy eating is a priority, clients are assisted with grocery planning. Residents shop on their own or go to the supermarket with staff. An onsite chef assists clients with meal preparation, with an emphasis on proper nutrition. Both houses include onsite staff.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admittance, clients must have undergone detox. They are provided individualized recovery plans, which include attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), seeing a therapist or participating in an aftercare program. Other requirements include attending 12-step meetings, maintaining an active relationship with a sponsor and working the steps. The minimum weekly 12-step meeting requirements vary per client’s schedule. Typically, women enrolled in an IOP are allowed to attend a lesser amount of weekly meetings than clients who have more time on their hands. During the first 30 days, the curfew is 10 pm seven days a week. After that period, the curfew is midnight Sundays through Thursdays, and one am Fridays and Saturdays.
Nutritional support and healthy exercise habits are emphasized for clients with eating disorders. Clients participate in a weekly process group. Topics discussed include coping skills and relapse prevention. The 30-day cost for Pathways Oxnard is $1,500, while Pathways Venice Beach is $3,500. At Pathways Venice Beach, and at Oxnard, clients are subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. Relapsed clients are subject to immediate eviction from the premises.
Extras
Besides housing, other services provided include daily meditation, yoga, spiritual mentoring, art therapy, music therapy and equine therapy.
Pathways Venice Beach is a member of the Sober Living Network, Los Angeles County Sober Living Coalition.
