Spokane WashingtonThe Basics

Originally established as part of the Deaconess Medical Center in 1988, Partners with Families and Children began as the Regional Center for Child Abuse and Neglect. Located in Spokane, PFC evolved to become a non-profit organization in 2003 to provide chemical dependency and mental health services in Eastern Washington State. All services are outpatient and focus on providing clients with evidence-based treatment for substance abuse in tandem with family therapy.

Treatment and Staff

All potential clients are initially seen by a member of the intake staff to assess the direct needs of the client. The facility offers two levels of substance abuse treatment; a standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Clients requiring a less intensive plan are enrolled in the standard outpatient track which meets only once per week. The IOP meets up to three days per week for three hours each day. Even though the programs are in varying intensity, each client’s treatment schedule and duration of treatment is based on an individualized treatment plan developed by their case manager. Some individuals may attend for one month to three depending on their progress.

All clients attend group therapy each day in gender-specific groups so they may feel comfortable sharing as they progress through their program. Groups focus on relapse prevention techniques, psycho-education and coping skills. In addition to groups, clients work with their personal counselors in individual therapy.

All therapies are carried out through the Mutual Competence Model which combines Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) techniques.

All counselors are Master’s-level practitioners that have additional credentials in the treatment of substance abuse. The staff includes MFT, LPCs and LCDCs. For clients who have experienced significant levels of trauma and who have other mental health concerns, EMDR therapy is also available. Clients are expected to remain abstinent during their treatment period. If clients desire additional support outside of the facility, counselors have community resources for 12-step meetings and more.

Extras

Treatment at PFC revolves around the Family Program allowing clients and their loved ones to work more intensively on their relationship and general health. Couples therapy is offered as well as specialty groups including an Engaging Fatherhood group, Financial Asset Building group, Parent-Child Interaction group and more.

Additionally, medical examinations, forensic interviews, legal advocacy and court preparation services are available.

In Summary

The Partners with Families and Children facility is a dynamic space for clients to receive mental health and chemical dependency treatment. PFC views family involvement as integral for recovery success and loved ones are incorporated into individual, group, couples and family therapy. Healing in the home is as important as treating the individual and to this end, a range of specialty groups are available as well as unique services for children and teens.
