 parkwoodThe Basics

Parkwood Behavioral Health System offers services for substance abuse and mental health disorders to clients in northern Mississippi. It was established in 1987 to serve seniors, adults, adolescents and children with a continuum of care. Programs like residential treatment for behavioral health are available for adolescents only, while a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is available to children and adults. Substance abuse treatment is available through PHP and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). There are separate programs depending on the age group of clients. Parkwood treatment is linked to support groups on- and off-site.

Treatment and Staff

Therapy at Parkwood uses evidence-based practices and treatment is individualized. Parkwood offers assessments, inpatient care, PHP and IOP for adults, and IOP for adolescents struggling with substance abuse issues.  Dual diagnosis support for clients with co-occurring disorders is available at every level of care.

The process for admission begins with client assessments and evaluations. Initial assessments allow staff and clients to develop individualized treatment plans. Clients may enter IOP directly or as a step down from inpatient or PHP. Partial hospitalization is well-suited for clients who have already gone through detox, for example, or for those who need to work during the week while getting structured treatment. Each client meets with a psychiatrist and a licensed therapist in a hospital setting. One therapist is assigned to each client.

The Chemical Dependency PHP offers individual, group and family therapy five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 9 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 1 pm to 9 pm. Clients must attend two nights of group therapy and one night is reserved for family and/or partner therapy. If a client needs a place to stay while attending PHP, he or she has access to apartments on campus. Treatment schedules are flexible to accommodate clients’ work responsibilities. Intensive outpatient treatment for adolescents requires attendance at individual, group and family therapy three days or nights a week for a minimum of three hours a week. Adult IOP requires clients to attend individual, group and family therapy.

There are four psychiatrists, one physician, one psychologist, nurses, social workers, CADCs and recreational therapists on staff.

Extras

Educational assistance is available for children and residential clients at Park Academy, an educational facility on-campus.

In Summary

Parkwood Behavioral Health System offers expansive treatment for psychiatric disorders, mental health issues and substance abuse. The staff are well-qualified to address clients of any age and at any point on the spectrum of addiction.
