Serving Fort Wayne and the surrounding areas in Indiana, Park Center offers affordable outpatient treatment and dual diagnosis support for adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Founded in 1954, the mission of the facility is to help addicts and alcoholics stay sober and provide them with tools to get back into life. The 12 steps are used, in addition to other forms of evidence-based therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Clients begin treatment with an assessment of their drug and alcohol use patterns, mental health and psychological history. From this assessment, an individualized treatment program is developed. While detox is not available, referrals to outside facilities can be made. Clients with dual diagnosis are seen by a staff psychiatrist for medication management.
Park Center offers what they call a Structured Outpatient program. This includes 90 minute groups offered both during the days and early evenings, Mondays through Thursdays. The program is flexible—clients can sign up for groups on a session by session basis. Some clients just attend groups once a week, but can increase the intensity of treatment when needed. Individual counseling is offered as well, with the frequency depending on the client.
Therapy at Park Center embraces AA/NA and clients are encouraged to attend meetings in addition to treatment. Group topics include the 12 steps, addiction education, the development of coping skills and tools to abstain, identifying and working through cravings and relapse prevention. Gender specific programming is offered for women to address unique recovery challenges they may face.
There are seven LCDCs on staff, in addition to case managers and a psychiatrist. There are approximately seven clients for each staff member. Group sizes are kept relatively small, ranging from five to twelve people.
Park Center also collaborates with the Fort Wayne Womens Bureau Transitions housing program which helps women overcome barriers to successful, long-term recovery by addressing parenting and family bonding issues, self-sufficiency, education, and job skills as well as addiction.
Family programming at Park Center includes both education and therapy for family members.
Park Center’s affordable outpatient program offers scheduling flexibility, making it ideal for someone who is working or in school. With the added bonus of vocational and housing assistance, clients can have a smooth transition back into everyday life.
