The Basics
Located just outside Atlantic City, Park Bench in Northfield, New Jersey, provides individualized treatment for addiction through experiential, CBT and other evidence-based therapy approaches. The facility offers varying levels of outpatient care including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient treatment (OP) for clients who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment is available for adults with a specialty program for young adults with an opiate addiction.
Treatment and Staff
This facility most commonly treats clients that are from New Jersey, or neighboring states, though the programs are open to clients from all over the county. For those who aren’t local, there are sober living housing facilities offered since treatment is outpatient. Depending on what the intake counselor assesses the three levels of care, PHP, IOP or OP, require different hours of programming. The most intensive is the PHP, which is offered six days a week for about six hours per day and includes lunch. The IOP is three evenings a week for three hours and OP is typically one hour a week and is a step down from the other two programs. The PHP and IOP are a mix of both group and individual sessions that emphasize relapse prevention, coping skills, family and psychoeducation groups or lectures lead by guest speakers.
Therapy utilizes many avenues of treatment. The traditional methods, like CBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and introduction to the 12-steps is used, as well as more holistic approaches, like art therapy and psychodrama. There are also mindfulness methods like yoga, meditation and deep breathing techniques, which is used in coping mechanisms. Clients may also partake in experiential therapies, like recreating a real life experience in which relapse is plausible. Additionally, Park Bench offers medication management services for clients with a dual diagnosis and for clients who need to ease the cravings of opiates.
The staff at Park Bench have many years of experience working in the field of addiction, many of which are Master’s-level clinicians. Their accreditations include LPC, CADC, LCSW, psychiatrist, LPNs specializing in addiction.

The clients enjoy regular exercise, or sober outings, like movie nights to trips to the beach.
Aftercare planning is incorporated into every client’s individual treatment. A family program, which can involve group therapy, psychodrama, or teleconferencing, is available.
