Paradigm San Francisco Overview
Paradigm San Francisco is a broad behavioral health facility providing a wide range of services for teens struggling with eating disorders and related issues. The San Francisco facility is one of two locations under the Paradigm umbrella. The other is Paradigm Malibu. Paradigm San Francisco offers residential treatment for both male and female adolescents.
Accommodations and Food
Paradigm San Francisco offers an intimate home with room for only eight residents at a time in gender-separate rooms. All residents share bedrooms, typically include two to a room. Single rooms are also available in special circumstances. Bedrooms come with queen-sized beds, nightstands, carpeting and plenty of natural light.
The rest of the facility is a sprawling, mountain-side home with common areas with games, outdoor patios, exercise areas, ping-pong tables and hiking trails.
The residence also features a spacious on-site kitchen and dining area. Clients eat three healthy and delicious meals a day, plus snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Before a program begins, all residents go through an initial intake and assessment to help staff members determine their needs. Although on-site detox and medical stabilization services are not available, those in need can get referrals as necessary. While each program may vary somewhat, all residents can expect full and varied days of treatment.
Though schedules are somewhat flexible, all clients attend daily individual therapy along with three to four group sessions, all featuring evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. The therapeutic approach is often insight-oriented and includes lessons from attachment theory as well, though modalities may vary on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, residents can also expect a range of holistic methods as well including art therapy, music therapy and drama therapy. Residents also do daily meditation and exercise, with recreational activities and day trips built in as well.
Dual diagnosis support and medication management are available, with psychiatric visits worked in as necessary. While the program is oriented primarily towards mental health issues and eating disorders, those struggling with addiction and other issues can also get the support they need. Although the staff may encourage 12-step participation, they don’t require it.
The staff at Paradigm San Francisco consists of psychologists, psychiatrists, RNs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LADCs, nutritionists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
The organization also facilitates unique and cutting edge therapies like neurofeedback, acupuncture, sound therapy and equine therapy.
Unlike some competing facilities, the organization doesn’t employ any kind of point or level-based system. It promotes individual responsibility throughout recovery. Those who complete the program above can also work with staff to develop aftercare plans as necessary.
