Paracelsus RecoveryParacelsus Review

Located in Zurich, Switzerland, Paracelsus Recovery was founded in 2012 by the father and son team of Dr. Werner Gerber, an expert psychiatrist and Jan Gerber, a grad of the London School of Economics. Paracelsus Recovery was named after a fifteenth-century German Swiss philosopher and physician who is considered the founder of toxicology. Since its inception, the facility has been working to earn a reputation for being the world’s most exclusive private addiction treatment institution, while also providing the individual care and empathy of a family business. Paracelsus Recovery treats only one person at a time, providing a completely individualized treatment experience.

Accommodations and Food

Paracelsus Recovery offers each residential client a wide range of luxurious housing options, depending on their preferences. Those seeking treatment can choose to stay in the upscale Paracelsus apartments or seven-star hotel penthouses at the Park Hyatt Zurich or Dolder Grand. As an alternative, Paracelsus can also arrange for almost every type of accommodation, according to individual client requests. The organization also has access to lakeside villas, historic old-town residences, modern penthouses, countryside chalets and many more.

Within these accommodations, clients have the best of everything. This includes fine linens, Wi-Fi, high-definition satellite entertainment systems and modern, full-service kitchens. The assigned addiction therapist lives with the client in the residence. As required, a butler, housekeeper, driver and other staff are also present in the residence. All clients are provided a full-time, on-site gourmet chef. An orthomolecular medicine specialist will complete a nutritional and lifestyle assessment for every resident and offer suggested meal guidelines. Chefs work with nutritionists to ensure that all meals are appropriate for each client’s needs.

Treatment and Staff

Once the client arrives for treatment, they are greeted at the airport by an intake team that accompanies them to a partner hospital where they receive a comprehensive medical check-up. Those who require medical detox will stay in the hospital to ensure a safe withdrawal and minimized discomfort. The Paracelsus clinical coordinator is present and supervises each client’s care. During the initial stages of treatment, clients also complete a psychiatric evaluation and bio-chemical testing. An addiction therapist is also assigned and completes a substance abuse assessment. On the basis of the intake info, a detailed treatment plan is initiated after discharge from the hospital.

After detox, clients move to a luxury apartment, hotel or another agreed-upon residence. According to the treatment plan, a daily schedule is established and therapists come to the client’s residence for sessions. The plan comprises a range of treatments and may include up to eight hours a day of care. Treatment can include extensive individual therapy with a team of licensed counselors, addiction therapists and psychiatrists.

Paracelsus does not believe recovery is possible without an intensive chemical balance correction, which requires investigating the root of all psychological disorders. Dual diagnosis support for those with depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD and many other mental health issues is available. The program also makes bio-chemical restoration a priority, which involves orthomolecular therapies that correct brain chemistry imbalances through proper nutrition and vitamin supplements.

Therapeutic modalities include CBT, EMDR for trauma, fitness training and 12-step facilitation. If appropriate, clients are provided with transportation and chaperoned to off-site recovery meetings in the community. Holistic treatment practices like bio-resonance, acupuncture, reflexology and yoga are also customized for each client. The length of treatment varies based on each individual but the minimum length of stay is four weeks and the typical is eight to 12 weeks.

The Paracelsus Recovery team is made of medical doctors, nurses, psychiatrists/psychotherapists, licensed addiction counselors, acupuncturists, a massage therapist, a nutritionist and fitness coaches trained in tennis and yoga. The staff can accommodate English, French, German, Russian and Arabic speakers.

Extras

All clients have daily access to the Spa at the Dolder Grand Hotel for relaxation and leisure between therapies. The luxurious spa offers various saunas, a large pool, whirlpools, relaxation areas and a gym. Spa treatments and cosmetic treatments (at an additional cost) are also offered.

Aftercare can include a sobriety mentorship program, regular telephone or Skype contact with a therapist and in-person meetings during return visits to the clinic or in their home environment. Mentoring normally involves the the primary therapist returning home with the client and living there for a few days to several months. This helps ensure a smooth transition from the therapeutic environment to the client’s usual habitat. The therapist helps the client establish a recovery program in their own surroundings and adapt their lifestyle to recovery.

Paracelsus Recovery also offers a two-day weekend intensive family program at no extra cost. This includes group therapy and lectures to address the dynamics of the disease of addiction on a physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual level.

In Summary

Paracelsus Recovery offers a truly individualized, luxury recovery experience. While some clients may miss out on the fellowship and support of a peer group as part of the rehab experience, this is an ideal choice for those seeking absolute privacy and personal care. With the world-class accommodations, an emphasis on holistic healing and flexible care, this is the ultimate destination in luxury recovery.
