Pagosa Recovery Center Review
Pagosa Recovery Center is a treatment center in the scenic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado that believes substance abuse recovery requires not just dual diagnosis treatment and education, but also an outlet for personal expression. Along with basic outpatient, it offers an “enhanced” outpatient treatment program which is designed to replace inpatient treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The enhanced outpatient program is ideal for those who have recently become sober. Treatment lasts three months and clients meet twice a week in the evenings for an hour-and-a-half. This program includes group therapy, addiction education, relapse prevention and art therapy. During art therapy, clients are free to draw, paint and photograph—to name a few options—and Pagosa feels these expressions of creativity frequently lead to breakthroughs in recovery. The program also includes four individual sessions in the first month. Basic outpatient clients may request individual sessions, attend group sessions or attend a free “crazy sober people” (as Pagosa calls it) meeting twice a week.
The staff includes a licensed therapist with more than 30 years of experience as well as administrative staff.
Extras
For those working to meet legal obligations, Pagosa Recovery Center is an approved provider of substance abuse monitoring and testing including both breathalyzer tests and urinalysis.
They also offer a free aftercare group every Wednesday. During this meeting, clients share their recent experiences and address any internal struggles that may affect their long-term recovery. Pagosa Recovery Center encourages clients to meet for two more individual sessions during the aftercare period to further cement strategies to avoid relapse.
