Founded in 2000 in Orange County, California, Pacific Shores Recovery offers high-end gender-specific sober living to adults in recovery. Men reside in a spacious building in Newport Beach, and women are housed in a two-story duplex in Costa Mesa. Pacific Shores Recovery keeps its numbers small. With no more than eight to ten adults per location, clients are able to receive extra support from staff, as well as thrive in an intimate family-style environment. Both houses are walking distance from the beach and shopping malls.
Accommodations and Amenities
At Pacific Shores Recovery, clients are offered the option of single or double-occupancy rooms if space permits. A typical single includes a twin bed with a wooden headboard, matching nightstand, dresser, decorative plants and a night lamp. The rooms feature color coordinating comforters and pillows. Each room has a large sliding window with white curtains. The houses feature large living rooms with comfy couches, eclectic furnishings and flat screen TV’s. Amenities include laundry facilities, a swimming pool, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor patio area.
Spacious kitchens include wooden cabinets, double door refrigerators and granite countertops. Clients are required to purchase their own groceries and cook their own meals. Each residence has a live-in house manager who is on hand to provide assistance in regards to grocery shopping, preparing a meal and budgeting money.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admission, clients must have a minimum of 30 days of abstinence from chemical substances. Pacific Shores Recovery prefers individuals who have completed residential treatment, but clients are admitted on a case by case basis. During the first 30 days, there is a ten pm curfew Sundays through Thursdays, and an 11 pm cut off time on Fridays and Saturdays. After that time period, there is no curfew.
Weekly requirements include attending five 12-step meetings, being at the house meeting, performing household chores, obtaining a sponsor and going to school or finding employment. Some clients attend aftercare at Successful Recovery, Pacific Shore Recovery’s sister facility. Treatment options include experiential therapy, individual and group therapy. Successful Recovery is strongly rooted in the 12-steps and clients are provided with education regarding the principles and practices of AA/NA.
Pacific Shores Recovery alumni are on hand to offer their services as sponsors for clients.
Residents participate in outings around Orange County, which is a hub of activity. Destinations include local attractions like the Queen Mary, Disneyland and Balboa Island are in close vicinity.
At Pacific Shores Recovery, clients receive individualized attention, along with peer support, when it comes to recovery. That along with strong emphasis in spirituality makes Pacific Shores Recovery a wonderful place for 12-step oriented clients.
