Pacific Grove is a freestanding hospital facility on over four acres in the Southern California city of Riverside. There are 68 beds within the one story building of three units: substance abuse detox and inpatient treatment, psychiatric services and outpatient day programs. Rooms are semi-private with attached bathrooms. Residents can also enjoy the home’s lounges, private courtyards and laundry facilities. Clients also have access to the Internet and TV.
All meals are prepared and served on site by a kitchen staff and offer different options, including a salad bar, bread and dessert.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment through these programs typically begins with detox, which lasts between three and seven days. Length or treatment depends on the client but the stay is not typically more than 28 days. Programs are individualized and can include medication management.
Once detox is complete, clients begin in the PHP, which is the most intensive level of treatment while being able to return home at the end of the day— six hours a day, five days a week. Once assessed that progress is being made, client step down to less days and hours in the IOP, usually three or four days a week for three hours at a time. The IOP also offers a more flexible schedule of both day and evening times. The final step is the extended aftercare program, which is usually one group session a week for as long as the client feels he or she needs it. This serves mainly as a touchstone after the client has stopped being so immersed in their treatment, and offers a solid support system.
Treatment consists of group sessions that cover relapse prevention, art therapy and psychoeducation. Utilizes the Community Model, Pacific Grove offers open discussions and co-ed groups, with the intent on encouraging clients to be more assertive and open up to each other. Clients also participate in AA meetings and get a sponsor while in treatment.
The staff includes physicians and nurses in addition to LCSWs, LADCs and MFTs.
Extras
Family therapy is included in every client’s treatment plan. There are also alumni groups for graduates and substance abuse treatment for adolescents.
