The Basics
Founded in 1981 as WRAP Family Services, Pacific Asian Counseling Services (PACS) is a community-oriented non-profit that provides affordable mental and behavioral health services to primarily Asian-American clientele. Outpatient counseling is available to both individuals and families, all addressing a wide variety of behavioral health issues. The organization has locations in Westchester, Van Nuys and Long Beach, California.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all potential clients meet with clinicians and case managers to help determine their needs and develop their care plans. Because the organization is outpatient-based, on-site detox services are not provided though referrals can be made as necessary. While the programs offered at Pacific Asian Counseling Services are highly individualized, treatment can include both group and individual counseling with evidence-based practices and trauma-informed care which vary by practitioner.
More broadly, treatment services are available for grief, interpersonal skills, culturally-specific and generational trauma, conflict resolution, mental health and co-occurring disorders. Case management is also provided to help refer participants to outside resources such as 12-step meetings or government benefits offices.
The staff at Pacific Asian Counseling Services consists of psychiatrists, LMFTs, LCSWs, case managers, LMHCs and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Other services include psychiatric consultations and counseling for school-related behavioral issues, typically aimed at younger children. One of the strengths of PACS’ program is its diverse and culturally specific approach. To that end, counseling services are provided in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Samoan, Tagalog, Taiwanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Spanish. Aftercare planning help is also available.
In Summary
In all, Pacific Asian Counseling Services in Van Nuys offers a range of flexible behavioral health care options. Treatment plans are evidence-based and include extensive case management to help clients make more meaningful connections with the outside world as well. Though these services are relatively niche, Pacific Asian Counseling Services remains a strong resource for its targeted demographic.
