Oxford Treatment Center Review

Situated an hour south of Memphis in the small community of Etta, Mississippi, Oxford Treatment Center is a luxury residential  facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as persons with co-occurring mental health conditions like trauma. Founded in January of 2012, Oxford offers a body-mind-spirit approach to care to heal the “whole person” rather than just treating symptoms. To this end, it provides individualized programming that integrates a number of therapeutic methods. Oxford is CARF-accredited with a full continuum of care that includes a medical detox, comprehensive residential program, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient services and aftercare, as well as a young adult program and a trauma track. Oxford Treatment Center is part of of the larger recovery organization, American Addiction Centers.

Accommodations and Food

Located in the beautiful Holly Springs National Forest roughly 15 miles from Ole Miss University, Oxford Treatment is situated on a scenic 110 acre campus with plenty of amenities. Surrounded by picturesque rolling hills and a large private lake, the grounds include separate male and female cabins, a detox lodge, a fitness center, a basketball court, horse stables and outdoor pavilions. The lodges are very nice, with plenty of comfortable common areas, TVs and shared rooms equipped with queen size beds and en suite bathrooms.

Clients enjoy banquet style dining with plenty of healthy options. Individuals with dietary restrictions or allergies can be accommodated.

Treatment

Most clients entering Oxford transition immediately into the detox program. The facility offers a complete medical detox for an array of substance use disorders in addition to alcohol. With only 12 beds, clients can go through detox in privacy or with the support of their peer. Oxford utilizes medication to curb uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms as well as an around-the-clock nursing team.

Upon completion of detox, most individuals begin the residential program. This begins with a comprehensive assessment of the client’s medical and substance use history, and helps the Oxford staff determine the most effective individualized treatment strategy. While treatment stays can vary depending on the individual, most clients stay for 30 days. Clients engage in individual psychotherapy sessions as well as group therapy rooted in evidence-based CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). There is also some 12-step integration, especially if a client continues on to outpatient care.

Oxford Treatment Center Staff

The multidisciplinary team at Oxford is comprised of clinical therapists, psychiatrists, program coordinators, family therapists, social workers, experiential therapists, recreation therapists, art therapists, equine therapists, physicians and a nursing team. Medication management is available for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions.

Extras

In addition to its more clinical approaches, Oxford also facilitates art and music therapy, equine therapy, nutrition education and wilderness therapy—where clients fish, hike, camp and go rock climbing.

There is also a a comprehensive family program, as well as a specialized residential track for young men ages 18 to 25.

In Summary

Oxford Treatment Center provides a beautiful setting, supportive staff and individualized programming that integrates a number of holistic and evidence-based therapeutic methods. For clients seeking an upscale residential experience that includes a medical detox and dual diagnosis support, Oxford Treatment Center is a great option.
