Oxford House-WestfieldThe Basics

Located about 15 minutes from Wilmington, in suburban area of Newark, Delaware, Oxford House Westfield provides sober living for adult women who are new in recovery or fresh out of treatment. Operating under the Oxford House umbrella—an expansive international network of sober living homes—the Westfield House promotes self-sufficiency while providing rules and boundaries for it residents. Westfield House has been providing affordable living and sober support for women in early recovery since 2011.

Accommodations and Amenities

Oxford Westfield is a two story home on a corner lot with five bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and small eating area. The house accommodates six women in four single-occupancy bedrooms and one double occupancy room. Furnishings include twin beds, dressers and bed linens. The Basic cable, Wi-Fi, phone service and laundry facilities are included. The clients are responsible for purchasing all their own food and personal items. The house features a large backyard with a barbecue pit and patio furniture.

Rules and Regulations

Prospective clients must be unanimously voted in by the existing house mates after an initial interview with the house president (who is democratically elected). Once admitted, clients are asked to sign a 30 day contract agreeing to be out of the house daily from 10 am until 3 pm for work or to seek employment, attend five AA/NA meetings per week (with house slips signed) and abide by the 10 pm curfew Sundays through Thursdays and 11 pm Fridays and Saturdays. After the initial probation period, clients are permitted to stay out on passes for up to 48 hours.

Random urine tests are conducted and any client who tests positive has 15 minutes to vacate the premises. There is also a zero tolerance for threats, violence or theft. Mandatory house meetings are held on Sunday evenings at 10 pm. Visitation is permitted by appointment only and all guests must be approved by the house president. Visitors are not permitted in private rooms and males are prohibited from entering the premises. All clients are assigned weekly house chores and are responsible for cleaning up after themselves in the bathroom and kitchen.

In Summary

Westfield House offers sober living to women seeking extra support and fellowship in their early days of recovery. Women are encouraged to help one another in creating an atmosphere of security and safety while they develop autonomy and independence.
