Oxford Pioneer ParkThe Basics

Oxford House Pioneer Park is a men’s sober living facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. While the majority of Nebraska Oxford Houses are in eastern cities such as Omaha, Oxford House Pioneer Park is one of just six houses situated in central Nebraska, serving residents in Dodge, Kearney and Hall Counties. While each house operates autonomously, the standard 12-step-based Oxford House code of ethics and operations applies.

Accommodations and Amenities

Pioneer Park houses men in seven single-occupancy bedrooms with three shared bathrooms. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Grand Island—just two blocks from the city’s iconic St. Mary’s Cathedral. The furnishings are homey and comfortable; each room has a full or queen bed, dresser and nightstand. The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator and microwave. Residents are generally responsible for their own food. On-site laundry facilities, Cable TV, Wi-Fi, cleaning supplies are included in the rent.

Rules and Regulations

All potential Oxford House candidates must be at least six months sober and be gainfully employed. There is zero tolerance for substance abuse, stealing or violence of any kind. In order to promote independence and the democratic spirit of Oxford Houses, the house manager is elected by the residents and serves a six month term. All incoming clients are screened by the manager prior to admissions and house residents must unanimously approve the new member. Oxford Houses do not conduct drug and alcohol tests, rather, clients are on the honor system and anyone suspected of substance abuse will be accountable to the group at an in-house meeting.

All clients are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and keeping their personal and shared spaces tidy, including the kitchen after meal preparation. While the majority of residents at Oxford House Pioneer Park attend 12-step meetings, it is not a requirement. Rent is paid weekly and due on Monday morning by 10 am.

Extras

There are two other Oxford Houses in Grand Island—one for women with children which accommodates up to seven women in five bedrooms with four shared bathrooms, and another for men which allows up to 12 men in four bedrooms and three shared baths.

In Summary

Oxford House Pioneer Park offers privacy and autonomy for men seeking sober living at a reasonable price. Oxford House policy promotes independent living and self-governing, making Pioneer Park a good fit for individuals well into their recovery journey, but who could benefit from fellowship and emotional support.
