Oxford House Bel AirThe Basics

Located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Oxford House Bel Air is a self-supporting and democratically-run sober environment for men. The home opened in June 2012 and has been effectively offering a place of recovery ever since. The Bel Air house is a member of the international network of Oxford House sober homes that are all independently rented and operated.

Accommodations and Amenities

Located on a spacious property, Bel Air offers a comfortable living environment for six men at a time. The single-family home has three double-occupancy bedrooms, each with two twin beds—linens and pillows are provided. Each bedroom has a closet and two dressers for residents to store their clothing and other belongings. Two shared bathrooms are available with dual sinks and showers—towels are also provided.

There is a communal room used for hosting house meetings. The kitchen is on the opposite side of the communal room, and is fully stocked with appliances and utensils for preparing meals. A small computer space is available for residential use.

The house is located only a short bus or bike ride from 12-step meetings and job opportunities. Residents are expected to provide their own toiletries and account for these purchases in their monthly budget.

Rules and Regulations

All Oxford House affiliates follow the same Nine Traditions in order to maintain continuity between homes. All potential residents must demonstrate they are willing to remain sober and are recommended to have attended a 30-day inpatient facility or a detox before applying to Oxford House. All house members are present at admittance interviews to ensure a potential new resident is a good fit

Any individual who is caught drinking, using drugs or participating in disruptive behavior will be asked to leave the home. All house managers are elected by the vote of members and only serve for a period of six months. All house issues are resolved with a voting process and are settled by a unanimous decision.

All members must be active in a 12-step group of their choice and working with a sponsor to guide them through the 12 steps.

Each house member must pay their portion of rent a week before it is due and if a house member wants cable TV or special programming, they must pay for that service. To live at Bel Air, residents must be self-supporting and have a job in place to pay their monthly rent.

The Bel Air house has one weekly mandatory in-house meeting to discuss finance, consider new house members, resolve problems and discuss of house maintenance. Chores operate on rotating shifts and residents are expected to keep their own space clean, buy their own food and purchase toiletries.

House members are welcome to stay at Bel Air as long as they need—anywhere from a few months to several years.

In Summary

Oxford House has a rich history of providing sober living based on the 12-step principles and traditions. Bel Air House also maintains the tradition of autonomy so residents are free to come and go and live independent lives. Clients in search of a sober environment where they will live independently but surrounded by peers will find Bel Air House a good fit.
