Oxford Bayliss ParkThe Basics

Accommodations and Amenities

Oxford House Bayliss Park is located in a quiet residential neighborhood among other stately, historical homes. The large, Victorian style house is situated on a grassy corner lot and has three stories and a circular windowed sun porch.

Bayliss Park can accommodate eight men in three double occupancy rooms and two singles. Common areas include a fully-equipped kitchen, a formal dining and living room and a recreation room with cable TV. There is a communal computer with free Wi-Fi and a pool table. There are three bathrooms, an attic for extra storage space and full on-site laundry facilities.

Rules and Regulations

In keeping with Oxford House traditions, Bayliss Park has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to drugs or alcohol on the premises. Residents are required to pay their rent on time and must be respectful of themselves and their house-mates. In order to be admitted into this Oxford House, clients must have completed either a residential or detox program. Oxford House Bayliss Park also requires that residents attend two 12-step meetings per week, the weekly house meeting, and have a personal plan for their ongoing recovery.

Each Oxford House is autonomously run, but is also a part of a broader Oxford House chapter which includes every Oxford House within a 100-mile radius. Democratically elected representatives from each house meet with one another for monthly chapter meetings to exchange information and to discuss resolutions for problems that arise in the homes.

Extras

Oxford Houses participate in monthly social get-togethers with houses within their region to promote fellowship and a broader sober community.

The yearly World Convention invites international Oxford House representatives and clients to discuss the functionality of the Oxford Houses and new techniques for addiction treatment.

In Summary

Oxford Houses are an established and successful system of sober homes for those in need of a basic and affordable environment where they can maintain their recovery among fellows. Residents are encouraged to focus on independent living skills and to develop autonomy. Bayliss Park provides structure for clients by requiring them to attend 12-step meetings and to develop a personal treatment plan, making this a good choice for men who are early in recovery.
