The Basics

Founded in 1877, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois is a multi-faceted medical center and a teaching affiliate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. The organization offers a wide range of healthcare services to clients as well as a suite of behavioral health services. In addition to its outpatient services for mental health issues, the organization also offers outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for clients struggling with eating disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized care plans. As the facility is a fully-equipped medical clinic, those in need of detox or stabilization services can receive them on-site before continuing on to therapy. Though each program track includes similar modalities, outpatient is the most flexible option with schedules set according to each participant’s needs and schedule. IOP meets for two to five days a week for three hours per session. PHP is the most intensive, consisting of daily treatment from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm with clients returning home in the evenings.

In all the above, programs include individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT, though specific modalities may vary by practitioner. Dual diagnosis support and medication management are also provided. Throughout the program, participants attend groups covering healthy body image, emotional processing, trauma-informed care, psychoeducation, meal planning and nutrition. Supervised meals are also an important part of the curriculum. While 12-step participation is not required, those who want to attend those programs can get referrals to nearby meetings as necessary.

The staff at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center consists of MDs, psychiatrists, psychologists, RNs, LPCs, LMFTs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.

Extras

As mentioned, the organization also offers a whole host of medical services as well as occupational therapy, women’s healthcare and a wide range of standalone wellness services as well. Those who complete a primary care plan can also work with staff members to develop stepped down aftercare options as well.

In Summary

In all, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center provides flexible treatment programs for eating disorders and mental illnesses with medical and psychiatric supervision. Plans are individualized and include evidence-based treatment practices, dietary counseling and groups covering a range of educational topics. While the cost of treatment varies, depending on each participant’s insurance coverage, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is a strong resource for those in the area seeking outpatient eating disorder care.
