The Basics

Milwaukie, Oregon based Oregon Trail Recovery features comprehensive outpatient programs as a step-down from the organization’s residential tracks. Treatment offers gender-specific care through an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that uses the 12 steps along with evidence based practices in therapeutic settings. Along with education, vocational training and nutritional counseling, Oregon Trail Recovery can provide sober living accommodations for those attending the IOP.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment uses a variety of modalities within its three month long program. Typically clients who are participating in the outpatient track are graduates from a residential program or have gone through a medical detox. Oregon Trail Recovery is abstinence based and uses a number of therapies, like CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), EMDR, Seeking Safety and art therapy. Additionally, there are daily AA meetings that clients are expected to attend and obtain a sponsor.

The outpatient track is the second part of treatment and within the 90 days the clients are considered Senior Peers and are expected to assist newcomers to the program and escort them to evening meetings. Treatment consists of three days a week of group therapy for two hours a day. There is also at least one individual counseling session per week that runs about an hour, and during that time clients work on an aftercare plan with their therapist.

There are both co-ed and gender specific groups offered every day in treatment. Group therapy addresses relapse prevention, coping skills, anger management and stress reduction. Throughout this stage in treatment clients are either working, enrolled in school or volunteering.

The staff of the IOP at Oregon Trail Recovery are CADCs, LCSWs, LPCs and medical professionals. It is worth noting that all of the staff are also sober and in recovery. Detox is accessible through Pacific Crest Trail Detox and limited dual diagnosis support is available.

Extras

Living in the transitional housing through Oregon Trail Recovery is not required, but is certainly an option. For those who wish to continue in housing, there is an additional $250 dollars a month added on to pay for rent.

In Summary

The IOP at Oregon Trail Recovery is a perfect step-down from the residential track. Clients in this stage are able to use their coping and life skills in their daily lives within a structured environment, as well as assist incoming clients through support. It’s a also a solid option for treatment from a reputable resource if someone would like to seek help but cannot commit to an inpatient program due to personal or professional obligations.
