The Orange Regional Family Program for Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency was founded 2000 in the Middletown, New York, as part of the Orange Regional Medical Center. The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)-licensed organization offers outpatient treatment for adult men and women in the state’s Hudson River Valley region.

Treatment and Staff

Individuals begin the treatment process at Orange with an in-person assessment with one of Orange’s counselors. During this meeting, substance abuse history is discussed and the needed level of care is determined. If the person is deemed a good fit for Orange, the counselor helps create a treatment plan. Men and women experiencing withdrawal symptoms or in need of more comprehensive care are referred to either a detox facility or a residential treatment center.

Orange offers both a co-ed Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well as a women’s IOP. Both programs implement group and individual counseling. Orange offers groups during both the day and evening, so that clients can choose which groups best fit their schedule. Although the exact length and intensity of these programs is based on the counselor’s assessment of the client’s needs, they generally attend these programs at least two to three days a week. The group meetings are usually small with no more than 15 clients per group. In both programs, the counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including CBT, relapse prevention and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The women’s IOP focuses on gender-specific issues in particular. Individual sessions are scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Although Orange is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA meetings while in the program. Orange is dual diagnosis and offers co-occurring disorders group meetings one to two times per week.

The staff at Orange consists of a mixture of LCSWs, CASACs and psychiatrists.

Orange also operates a variety of adolescent outpatient treatment programs including an adolescent IOP and relapse prevention program. These groups are very similar to that of the adult programs and meet two to three times a week in the evenings to accommodate clients’ academic schedules.

Clients undergoing opiate withdrawal may also qualify for Orange’s Suboxone program. The Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is run by a clinical treatment team and clients must be enrolled in one of Orange’s other treatment programs to qualify for it.

Extras

Orange offers a family program for its adolescent and adult tracks that consists of both group and individual sessions that cover dependency and substance abuse education.

Although there isn’t a formal aftercare program, clients who have completed one of the organization’s outpatient programs may wish to step down to Orange’s relapse prevention program. This program consists of one to two group meetings per week focused on relapse prevention techniques and as well as education and sharing. This program has a flexible length and clients are allowed to stay in it as long as they wish.

The organization also offers a variety of court-ordered programs including a DWI and DUI program.

The Orange Regional Family Program for Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency offers comprehensive and intensive outpatient treatment for adult and adolescent men and women in the Middletown area.
