Open Out Recovery Review
Open Out Recovery is a specialized substance abuse treatment program for members of the LGBT community. Located in Boynton Beach, Florida, Open Out Recovery provides residential and outpatient programs with extensive dual diagnosis support and trauma-informed care, including help for those suffering from PTSD. Open Out Recovery provides care for adult men and women, who are experiencing chemical dependency and substance abuse problems, along with co-occurring mental health issues. Open Out Recovery is part of the Aion Recovery group, which offers gender-specific treatment to men and women, as well as a program for first responders, in the Boynton Beach area.
Accommodations and Food
The Open Out Recovery home is in an upscale suburban neighborhood. Sixteen beds are offered in a modern building with a large back patio, a manicured front lawn and access to walking trails in a nearby wooded area. Open Out Recovery clients share a bedroom and bathroom with one other client of the same gender. No fraternizing is allowed between clients staying at Open Out Recovery.
There is a fully stocked kitchen and three meals a day are served family-style in the dining room. Nutrition and personal preferences are kept in mind and dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
The program is a minimum of 30 days, but clients often stay up to 90 days. Detox is not available, but referrals can be provided and once detox is completed, clients can begin their program. Treatment takes place on-site at the house weekends and evenings and transportation is provided to the clinical Aion Recovery facility on weekdays. Residents have individualized treatment plans that include daily group therapy and on-site 12-step meetings. They also have individual therapy at least twice a week. Visits are allowed from friends and family on weekends with the approval of the client’s primary therapist.
Groups address a variety of topics designed to meet the needs of LGBT clients, like sexual health education, identity issues and family communication. Open Out Recovery provides CBT and DBT, as well as family services and trauma/loss counseling. Dual diagnosis support and psychological and psychiatric services are also available.
Open Out Recovery employs licensed and LGBT-sensitive team members. They include psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, MFTs, and registered nurses.
Extras
After completing the inpatient program, clients have the option to continue in the Aion Recovery outpatient programs for another 90 days. After that time, the treatment team helps each client create an aftercare plan. This includes up to 12 months of alumni groups and complimentary therapist check-ins.
There is a family program that includes check-in calls, family therapy (available by video call for those outside the area) and information sessions. Referrals are also provided to family resources like Alanon and Alateen.
