OnTrackOntrack Review

Ontrack provides recovery services in Oregon to those struggling with substance abuse. Options include residential programs located in Grants Pass and Medford and outpatient services in White City and Ashland, Oregon. Ontrack is unique in that it provides inpatient treatment for pregnant women, and mothers and fathers along with their children.

Accommodations and Food

Each Ontrack recovery facility follows the same treatment program adjusted for the unique requirements of the clientele. The residential inpatient center for men and women over 18 houses 10, with a five-bed female dorm and a five-bed male dorm. The HOME program, for women and their children, houses over 60 women and children. The number and age of children determines room allocation. Women who are pregnant may share rooms with other pregnant women and those with infants will receive priority in staying in private rooms. Women never sleep separately from their children. In order to qualify for this program, children must be under school age, as transport to schools is not provided. The DADS program operates out of a nearby, but smaller home, and houses up to 10 men and their children.

Clients in all programs are required to complete daily chores, which include light cleaning and assisting with kitchen duties. A seven-week meal plan with cooking roster is created with the assistance of a chef to ensure nutritional needs are met. Clients are required to participate in the preparation of meals on a rotating basis, with substantial dietary requirements accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Each of the programs is similarly—and highly—structured, with average length of stay varying from 60 to 120 days. Evaluations can be performed at Ontrack’s walk-in center in Medford. Each facility has a waiting list of varying length, with clients demonstrating highest need given priority. While there is no detox or medication management available, Ontrack works closely with local medical facilities to provide clients the services they require. Pregnant women are escorted to all necessary appointments, as are clients that require dual diagnosis support.

Treatment includes four hours of group therapy daily, with 10 off-site 12-step meetings each week. Individual CBT is provided weekly and a peer process group meets each night. Groups focus on cognitive change, the Franklin Model and seeking safety. They are offered in gender-specific or mixed groups. Clients are required to exercise for thirty minutes daily, and cleaning and kitchen chores are assigned and rotated regularly. Clients with partners in either the DADS or HOME program are able to arrange for children to visit each parent, providing approval has been granted.

The outpatient program consists of four to five group therapy sessions weekly, and lasts one to three months, depending on the client’s needs. Those that have completed one of the residential programs are encouraged to participate in the outpatient program as an essential part of their aftercare.

Random urinalysis is performed and clients are supervised 24/7. CADCs supervise clients with one staff member for every three to five clients. Therapists, mental health specialists and case managers provide additional support.

Extras

Additional domestic violence, gambling addiction, housing for special needs and youth services are offered. Transitional sober housing can also be provided for clients with children and special needs.

Aftercare is suggested for all clients graduating from inpatient or outpatient programs. Weekly check-ins with the client’s case manager are arranged for one to three months following completion of treatment. Clients are encouraged to keep in touch for longer periods, if they feel they need the support.

In Summary

Ontrack provides a range of recovery services for adults that require treatment in the Oregon area. While the HOME and DADS programs often have a wait list, clients that demonstrate significant need are offered beds after shorter wait periods. Inability to pay is not an obstacle, neither is lack of insurance. Many beds are provided through the Oregon Health Plan. The self-paced and highly structured program ensures that clients will not leave before they build a strong foundation recovery, which Ontrack certainly provides.
