Valley Hope Association - O'NeillThe Basics

Founded in 1967, Valley Hope Association, commonly referred to simply as Valley Hope, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality treatment for those struggling with alcoholism and addiction. Valley Hope had very humble yet earnest beginnings, starting in a leased building on the campus of a hospital in Kansas. It now operates a network of treatment centers in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

The Valley Hope facility in O’Neill, Nebraska (dubbed the Irish capital of the state with a shamrock-painted intersection to prove it), Valley Hope O’Neill, is licensed by the state and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. It offers Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) and outpatient treatment, along with inpatient treatment, detox and continuing care. Outpatient treatment is conducted in a group setting and some of the many benefits include the client’s choice to maintain his or her occupational obligations and live at home while receiving the highest level of professional help.

Treatment and Staff

Both IOP and outpatient treatment at Valley Hope’s O’Neill location begins with an assessment, in which the staff determines the client’s specific needs and develops an individualized treatment plan.

IOP treatment is conducted in a six-week format with group therapy that meets three times per week for a minimum of three hours each session. CBT is the most common therapeutic technique implemented here. Individual therapy is also included, as is an education and introduction the philosophy of the 12-steps. Family members of the client are encouraged to participate in the educational programs offered, as Valley Hope believes the process of recovery should involve not just the client, but their family and community too. The length of IOP treatment can range from six months to a year, including aftercare and relapse prevention.

Outpatient treatment at Valley Hope is similar to IOP treatment, but requires fewer sessions per week that range from one to two hours in length. Treatment consists of both group and individual therapy, again CBT-based, and family counseling is encouraged. Relapse prevention education is provided and the staff provides ongoing assessments and evaluations of the client’s progress. The continuing care component in the outpatient treatment services consists of access and encouragement to participate in 12-step meetings for the client and Alanon meetings for the family members. Additionally, clients are offered one-hour group sessions once per week for as long as necessary.

The staff at Valley Hope is comprised of dedicated professionals who who hold the credentials of LADC, LCDC, LCSW and LPN.

Extras

Valley Hope understands clients who complete IOP or outpatient treatment and resume their lives and schedules might not be able to participate in continuing care programs. As such, it has created the Accessible Care/Effective Support Services Continuing Care Program (AC/ESS) which is an online therapy room where members can post and connect at their convenience. This virtual session is monitored by a counselor who provides feedback to the group at least once per day and in turn, group members are asked to respond to a question posted by the monitor once per day, to encourage consistent engagement.

Valley Hope Association: O’Neill also offers several financial options and incentives for patients who choose to commit to the six-week IOP program.

In Summary

The Valley Hope Association network offers a variety of treatments and is able to work with the client’s schedule and needs to achieve the common goal of sobriety. Through its IOP and outpatient programs, Valley Hope works with the client and the client’s family for the best possible results.  Its established network of recovery and professionals extends from the facilities to the Internet, allowing clients to maintain a connection to their support systems as they re-enter the world and thrive.
