The Oneida Indian Nation offers outpatient treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders through its behavioral health services unit in Green Bay, Wisconsin. An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), regular outpatient and buprenorphine services are available. Eligible clients include enrolled Oneida tribal members, enrolled members of other federally-recognized tribes living in Brown or Outagamie counties, and spouses of tribal members (uninsured and non-native individuals).

Treatment and Staff

The Oneida Indian Nation’s outpatient and IOP programs provide individual, group, couples and family counseling. If necessary, staff can make referrals for medical evaluations and to other substance abuse facilities that offer greater supervision. The standard outpatient program requires nine to 20 hours a week of counseling, while the IOP requires 20 or more hours a week of therapeutic contact in group and/or individual counseling sessions. Clients attend groups before and after work or school, with groups running until 9 pm . There is no cap on how long a client can attend the IOP or outpatient.

Clients schedule individual therapy sessions with an assigned counselors. The frequency of the sessions depends on whether or not a client opts for outpatient or IOP. Staff provide follow-up care and in-home support services and assist family members with providing support for clients.

Therapeutic methods include auricular acupuncture, guided imagery and art therapy. Staff also encourage clients to explore off-site recovery support groups, including 12-step meetings and Celebrate Recovery.

Staff include mental health counselors, a clinical supervisor, an MFT, a case manager and three clinical psychiatrists.

Services are available to hearing-impaired clients.

The Oneida Indian Nation offers unique therapies for tribal members and their spouses. Psychiatrists on staff manage the clinical aspects of treatment and case managers are responsible for helping clients plan for aftercare. The tribe accepts multiple forms of payments from its members, including HIS/638 contract care funds, insurance (private and military) and Medicaid/Medicare.
