Based out of Wooster, Ohio, OneEighty (formally known as STEPS at Liberty Center) is an expansive behavioral health organization with programs available for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Aside from its sober living and outpatient options, it also provides residential treatment at two locations in the area.

Accommodations and Food

The residential programs consist of two homes: Pathway House (formerly known as Noble House) and Beacon House for men and women, respectively. Both locations can accommodate up to 16 clients in each, with two to four residents to a room. Homes are equipped with on-site laundry, a living room with a fireplace and a TV (viewing times are Monday through Friday for two hours a day) and a fully-stocked kitchen.

Use of personal electronics is not permitted during a client’s first 30 days. Residents must also submit a list of phone contacts for approval and are then limited to 15-minute calls every three days or so, with priority given to communicating with children and medical professionals. After this initial period, residents can access their cell phones during off-site outings. Visitors are permitted (based on a pre-approved list) between the hours of 1 pm and 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

While clients are expected to shop for their own groceries, residents work together to prepare meals for the house.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial assessment, clients work with staff members to develop an individualized treatment plan comprised of individual and group therapy that uses evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. Other modalities include EMDRpsychodynamic processing trauma-informed care and 12-step meetings.  Residents are required to work the steps with a sponsor and peer recovery support is available as needed. Basic support for co-occurring disorders is available, however, clients with more severe mental illness may need to seek outside help. Programs generally last for six months but lengths of stay are flexible.

On a typical day, residents wake up at 7 am and must finish breakfast and their morning routine by 8 am.  Group meetings and other therapies are scheduled throughout the day. Lunch is at noon and dinner is served at 5 pm. After dinner, residents attend an off-site 12-step meeting between 6 pm and 8 pm and lights-out is at 11 pm.

The staff at OneEighty consists of Master’s-level LSWs and CADCs. Additionally, both homes employ chemical dependency counseling assistants who are available 24/7 and residents have access to a house therapist and a house monitor Monday through Friday during the day. The staff-to-client ratio ranges from one-to-eight to one-to-16.

Extras

OneEight’s staff often arrange extracurricular outings like hikes, miniature golf, movies and swimming.

Twice a week, residents have the option to visit the OneEight’s outpatient facility for alternative treatments such as art therapymusic therapy and relaxation techniques—each offered on a rotating schedule for an eight-week period.

Clients are given temporary YMCA memberships so that they may get adequate exercise during their stay.

As part of its family program, staff therapists meet with the client’s family for an initial consultation. If they determine that loved ones will benefit from regular sessions with an MFT, they are referred to OneEighty’s outpatient program.

Once primary care is completed, OneEighty offers sober living facilities for those looking for a transitional step after residential treatment. Also, clients interested in aftercare can step down to OneEight’s outpatient program.

In Summary

Overall, OneEighty is a well-rounded organization with comprehensive, long-term residential treatment options for men and women. Using evidence-based methods and 12-step support, it can offer recovery tools to clients struggling with addiction and mild dual diagnosis. For those seeking affordable residential care, OneEighty’s residential program is worth considering.
