Greenwood Village ColoradoThe Basics

One Day at A Time Counseling is an outpatient mental health facility located Greenwood Village, Colorado. The facility began as a one-room private practice in 2004 and has since developed into an eight-room facility for mental health services. Angie Cordova, the founder and sole counselor, was at one time a police officer while also providing counseling services through her private practice. Following the success of One Day at A Time, Cordova left law enforcement to practice full-time. Additionally, Cordova established a non-profit to assist sexually abused children and aid in their recovery. One Day at A Time offers marriage counseling, dual diagnosis support and substance abuse treatment.

Treatment and Staff

One Day at A Time Counseling utilizes an Integrative Therapy technique that is a person-centered approach and effective for a range of mental health concerns. Before an individual can enroll under her care, they must schedule an appointment for a bio-psycho-social assessment to determine the level and intensity of care. All recovery plans are individualized treatment initiatives tailored to the client’s needs. If the client is in need of detox prior to beginning treatment, they are referred to a local trusted facility.

ODT recommends that substance abuse clients attend group therapy once per week and individual therapy at least bi-monthly. Individuals with co-occurring disorders are supported with additional therapeutic resources. Cordova also offers marriage counseling, specialized treatment for children through Play Therapy, anger management tracks and stress management skills. Premarital services are also available through the Prepare and Enrich program. Additionally, Cordova is certified in specialized techniques including Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). These techniques are designed to help individuals, couples and families diffuse stressful situations and crises.

Cordova’s credentials include Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) Level III, LMFT, Registered Play Therapist (RPT), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) and Nationally Certified Professional Mediator (NCPM). Cordova also provides Christian faith focused counseling. If additional support is needed, clients may be encouraged to attend 12-step meetings or other similar resources.

Extras

Cordova provides intensive therapy for families and children. Consultation services are also available for clients who are experiencing violence in the workplace and trauma-related issues.

In Summary

One Day at A Time Counseling offers individual and group therapy options for clients with substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders incorporating a range of evidence based methods. All therapies are individualized to the client to ensure a successful beginning to recovery. While staff is limited to one professional, Cordova holds an impressive list of credentials and experience making this a solid choice for those seeking flexible treatment.

I’m writing this review because I want to make sure no other family will be negatively affected the way my family was by dealing with this unethically and immoral individual, Angelina Cordova. I have never worked or dealt with an alleged “professional” so skewed from their moral compass in the 40 years I have been on this planet. I’ll briefly summarize my experience with this individual as a cautionary tale to wisely/carefully choose your CFI (child family investigator) along with verbatim commentary from the magistrate who heard my case, speaking to the unprofessionalism demonstrated by Angelina Cordova.
We employed Ms. Cordova back in April of 2017. From the first interaction with her we found her to be very abrasive, condescending, adversarial, and unhelpful. Simple questions like asking about the process or timelines for events were met with stern and patronizing responses, all the while demanding we call her “Dr. Cordova”. This for us as I’m sure most families is a very scary time with many unknowns. Not one ounce of empathy during our first few interactions.
When we did finally meet I brought my girlfriend who took time off work to be at the first meeting. Not having been through this process we thought this was fine we even inquired but just received “this is my investigation I’ll run it the way I want”. I kid you not the simplest of questions were met with unwarranted rudeness and unprofessionalism. When we arrived for our first and only meeting and after waiting 15 minutes pass our appointment time, we finally met Angelina Cordova. She rudely said I’m only meeting with you, your girlfriend can’t come in. As mentioned before we tried to ask questions about the processes so we could plan accordingly and were given ZERO feedback. Simple things like this could be avoided, simple courtesies were never extended or shared. The whole time this was done to get a rise out of us or to facilitate basically an entrapment process always trying to catch us off guard or to create difficult situations as to get negative reactions. During this first interview process she showed some concern and appeared like things would be ok and that she would be steadfast with the investigation. BOY WHERE WE WRONG NOTHING FURTHER COULD BE FROM THE TRUTH, THE NIGHTMARE WAS JUST BEGINNING.
FROM THIS POINT ON THE PROCESS WAS HORRIBLE.
    • She filed an emergency motion to keep my family away from our daughter with no evidence or justifiable reasoning. It ended up being 17+ weeks before I got to see my daughter, this was after me having 50/50 custody the previous 7 years. During this time we had our second and final conversation of the investigation, 11 weeks before the investigation was to be finalized.
    • Background information, I work in a different city so I would have to fly back home for any appointments. Angelina Cordova was well aware of my schedule so what does she go and do. The night before our scheduled home visit she cancels well aware that I had flown back for no other reason than to be at our meeting. Did she offer an apology or reason, NOPE!!
    • When she was trying to contact my mother to get her witness statements she hung up on her, just hung up on her.
    • She was not only combative with me but everyone else she interviewed on our behalf, she was constantly rude and demanding.
    • She did not finally speak to my witnesses until the last week of the investigation and what does she have the gall to tell my girlfriend “Well I really don’t need to speak to you I’ve already come to a decision, I’m just checking off boxes”, wow are you serious? Yes we are!! Has the balance of our family in her hands and these are the things this person is saying and doing.
    • She did zero investigation on my behalf something the magistrate talks about in the below transcript.
    • The CFI report was filled with lies, fabrications, misrepresentations, ineptness, bias, and an overall lack of professionalism.
    • The cherry on top was her testimony, I won’t speak to it as I’ll let the words of the magistrate speak to her performance. “I have very real concerns about the CFI report, and I’m going to share some of those concerns with you. I do find that this CFI report was biased. I find this CFI report did very little to investigate Father’s concerns; was not at all objective in terms of the degree to which both sides of this case were investigated. And that gives me great concern. When I reviewed the report, I was rather surprised –and there was some issue made of this. There were literally pages of issues that Mother addressed with the CFI that were included in this report. And as far as Father’s concerns were addressed, there were five bullet points. I have very real concern about that. And I think one could reasonably conclude some bias here. Despite the psychological evaluations that occurred, despite the fact that we heard from the psychologist who did the testing for Respondent, that really Respondent’s testing was within the normal range. Still, despite that information, there still appears to be this uncertainty about Father. And I’m not persuaded by it. I kept looking for what was there.”
I apologize for the lengthy review but I want to make sure no other family has to deal with this individual and the compounding effects to an already stressful situation.

My childs father and I hired Angelina Cordova, Owner of One Day at a time counseling as the CFI in our custody case. I was concerned with physical and sexual abuse of my infant at the time by her father who public records shows was arrested for 2 separate sexual assaults on a child. From the beginning things were fishy. At our first meeting Ms. Cordova told me that his history of child rapes did not disqualify him from parenting. My daughter came home injured after every visit with him and the only alibi he had was his girlfriend. He told 4 different officials 4 different accounts of each injury. I pleaded with Ms. Cordova to do her job and save my daughter. I went through depression when I found blood in my infants diaper and so many vaginal injuries my ex used Ms. Cordova as a character witness in investigations although I am unsure if the police actually spoke to her. Long story short even with proof of domestic violesnce against me and at MINIMUM neglect against my daughter. Cordova decided that he was the better parent and diagnosed me with paranoia against all professionals opinions and evaluations. She never made him do his part or prove his false stories and tried to make stop sending her my evidence. She lied to the courts about statements from several officials to support her allegations against me. Thank God I was able to subpeona the people she claimed said negative things about me. No one but my ex and his family has said negative things about me. I am a highly decorated educator and a dedicated parent but she failed to mention that. She implied that I could be the abuser just to cast a dark cloud on me since I had overwhelming evidence against him. Solely because of her lies, my daughter was given to her abuser and if I had not kept fighting than she would be a lifelong victim. My case is only 5 months old and my ex is currently out on bail for his 3rd sexual assault on a child. My family has suffered so much emotional distress and abuse because of Ms Cordovas decision to fabricate almost EVERYTHING to shed a negative light on me. She then manipulated the system and have refused to abide by the directive governing her job. I requested her CFI insurance information and just a simple explanation because I am so broken over her lies and I cant understand why she thought a pedophile would be a great parent or why she pretended that I am not the amazing parent that I am all because I fought like hell for my daughter. I am over 60k in dept because of Ms. Cordovas misconduct and our emotional distress and my daughters innocence is priceless. Instead of attempting to apologize and provide a monetary settlement that we damn well deserve through her insurance. She has hired an attorney who will never be able to get her out of this. I understand that people make mistakes so I wasnt even going to try and have her incarcerated which is truly what she deserves but the fact that she will take no accountability for her fraud upon us and the courts and egregious behaviors is so disheartening. I definitely would NEVER recommend this women and I am fighting hard as hell to make sure she can never ever do this to another family
