Based out of Columbus, Ohio, Ohio Addiction Recovery Center is a broad behavioral health organization that offers flexible services for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility was founded in 2015 and provides individualized care and both short and long-term plans to fit clients’ needs. With programs available in 30, 60 and 90-day stays, participants live in sober housing while attending outpatient-based therapy.
Accommodations and Food
Though Ohio Addiction Recovery Center doesn’t directly own or operate its housing facilities, the organization works with a sober housing company called New Beginnings to provide 42 beds for men and women. Women and men are housed in separate facilities in primary shared bedrooms, though some private rooms may be available as well. All houses are well-kept and include common areas, cable TV, WiFi and fully-equipped kitchens. Throughout their stay, residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients go through an intensive intake and assessment process to help the staff determine each person’s needs. While detox is not yet available on-site, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs. Those in need of intensive, short-term care typically attend a 30-day Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), which meets for full days of treatment. After that, clients can step down to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or outpatient, with programs typically lasting for three to six months overall (though these stays can be longer in some cases).
Treatment plans include both group and individual therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. In addition to psychotherapy, the program puts major emphasis on life skills, which includes learning to cook, clean, manage a bank account, exercise, eat right and interact well with others. Clients are expected to work a 12-step program or a similar recovery group like SMART Recovery. Dual diagnosis support is also available. After the initial PHP phase, clients continue into IOP where the program begins to function more like a standard sober living facility. Clients are expected to get jobs and take care of themselves (with the help of staff).
The staff at Ohio Addiction Recovery is wide ranging and includes LCSWs, licensed therapists, case managers, nurses, psychiatrists, medical staff and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
The organization also takes clients off-site throughout the day for exercise with personal trainers, equine therapy and team-building exercises like a nearby ROPES course. Case managers are available to help clients design individualized discharge and aftercare plans.
Overall, Ohio Addiction Recovery Center provides flexible and community-oriented treatment plans which offer a blend of outpatient and sober living. Treatment includes evidence-based care, an emphasis on overall health and plenty of life skills training to keep clients busy. Above all, the program seeks to differ itself from the Florida Model in favor of a hands-on, communal approach. For those in the area looking for an all-encompassing recovery option, Ohio Addiction Recovery Center is worth considering.
