The Basics
Based in College Park, Georgia, Odyssey Family Counseling Center is a CARF-accredited, outpatient facility that provides community-oriented mental health services as well as treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Its Adult Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) accepts clients 18 years and up who have a history of drug addiction or drug and alcohol addiction, and its Odyssey to Recovery (OTR) program treats adolescent clients as young as 12 years-old. Odyssey Family Counseling Center is not currently licensed to treat those who struggle solely with alcohol addiction.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, ASAP clients are placed in one of three programs: early intervention, general outpatient or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). All programs follow the Matrix Model of recovery and are comprised of individual, group and family therapy (as needed) using evidence-based practices—primarily Motivational Interviewing (MI). All clients are also required to attend 12-step meetings and submit to regular urine tests.
The early intervention program meets for six-weeks and includes groups on addiction education, which meets on Tuesday from 6-7:30 pm and life skills, which meets from 6-7:30 pm on Wednesdays. The outpatient program is virtually identical except that it meets for 12 weeks.
The IOP includes the same groups but also has groups that focus on relationships (which meets on Mondays from 6-7 pm), health and wellness (meeting from 7-8 pm), and relapse prevention (which meets on the last four Tuesdays of treatment, from 6-8 pm).
The OTR is a 10-week abstinence-based program that includes groups on addiction education, which meets at the same time as the ASAP. This track is tailored for adolescents and focuses on drug and alcohol experimentation, personal and legal consequences of substance abuse and social and family dynamics— often taking referrals from school counselors, the court system and other related agencies.
For clients with a dual diagnosis, additional psychiatric support is available as is medication management.
Staff consists of LPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LPNs and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
Additional services include standalone behavioral health assessments, prevention and education programs for schools, anger management classes, pre-marital counseling, case management and HIV testing and education.
Odyssey offers courses in anger management and pre-marital counseling.
