Oceanica Review

Oceanica is Latin America’s most luxurious treatment center. Since 1991, Ocenaica has provided addiction treatment that focuses specifically on the cultural needs and issues of Spanish speaking clients. Located in the resort district of Mazatlan, Mexico, the facility offers luxury substance abuse treatment for an affordable price in a popular vacation destination. In a quest to develop an addiction treatment model for the Spanish-speaking world, founder Jesus Cevallos Coppel built Oceanica through a technology transfer agreement with the Betty Ford Center. Oceanica provides a continuum of care to clients who are 18 years and older that includes detox, inpatient and aftercare services with dual diagnosis support.

Accommodations and Food

Oceanica’s luxury oceanfront facility can accommodate up to 25 clients at a time. Each resident is housed in a private room with a queen or king bed, big screen TV and an en suite bathroom, some with large bathtubs. The facility also includes meeting rooms, a media lounge, a dining room and a beautiful communal outdoor space with smoking areas, a pool, tennis courts and a gym.

All meals are prepared on-site and included in the price of stay. Plenty of dietary options are available for each meal including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and traditional Mexican food.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Oceanica is completely individualized and the duration of the program is 30 to 60 days. Detox is offered on-site, with 24-hour medical supervision to ensure safety and medication to ease withdrawal symptoms.

Upon admission, clients spend every day attending individual therapy with an assigned counselor and taking part in group therapy twice a day. Weekly schedules include time for guided meditation, completing written assignments, off-site adventure excursions and time to swim or work out. Treatment uses CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), the 12-step framework and experiential modalities such as art therapy and meditation. Clients are also offered transportation to AA/NA meetings. Support for co-occurring disorders is available in the form of specialized groups and medication management. Treatment is available in Spanish, and the program offers gender-specific groups to tackle some of the complex issues facing Latin clients, like gender roles, spousal abuse and family obligations.

Oceanica employs a number of licensed counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists, medical professionals, financial case managers and recovery techs.

Extras

Oceanica aftercare is free for life. Alumni groups meet once a month at several locations. Video conferencing with therapists and online alumni chat groups are also available for those outside the area.

In Summary

Oceanica offers a luxury treatment experience that caters to Latin American clients using the 12-step model. This is a comprehensive rehab in a beautiful setting that offers a well-rounded mix of holistic and traditional therapeutic treatments. For Spanish speaking individuals seeking a rehab getaway that offers many of the comforts of a five-star vacation, this is a great choice.
