Oasis Renewal CenterOasis Renewal Center

Founded in 2010, Oasis Renewal Center provides residential treatment for men and women over 18 who are struggling with substance abuse issues. Situated on 48 acres of countryside in Little Rock, Arkansas, clients reside in an atmosphere replete with dogwood, trees, wild flowers and running streams which provides a serene setting for their recovery.

Accommodations and Food

The main cabin-style building has an impressive entryway with a high ceiling, stone columns and sparking tiled floors. While the rehab is co-ed, between ten and twelve clients reside in gender-specific log cabins. The hotel-like rooms include two twin beds, a desk area, two nightstands, a closet, a bathroom with a shower minus a tub. While fresh linens, comforters and towels are supplied, clients are welcome to bring their own bedding.

The dining room has an exposed beam ceiling and huge windows with white trim. Two ceiling fans hang over the formal dining room tables. A private chef prepares meals. Clients are served three times daily and those with special dietary needs, including vegetarian diets, are accommodated. Favorite dishes include roasted chicken and purple cabbage and stuffed mushrooms with risotto.

Treatment and Staff

Clients are required to be medically stable in order to be admitted to inpatient care. However, those requiring detox are referred to a local hospital. Upon completing a thorough assessment with the staff psychiatrist, clients receive an individualized treatment plan. Length of stay is 30 days. Treatment includes 20 hours of group therapy, individual therapy (with the staff psychiatrist) and attendance at two 12-step meetings per week off the premises, as well as one meeting on campus.

There are four major group sessions. The anticipation group is where clients read from 12-step books, share their insights and focus on spirituality. The process group is where clients talk about their personal issues, addictions and other concerns. The reflections group, as the name suggests, is where clients review the events of the day and discuss their emotional reactions. Finally, the relapse prevention group is where clients learn to identify triggers that can potentially cause them to use again.

Besides a 12-step approach, several evidence-based modalities including Motivational Interviewing (MI) and a community reinforcement approach, specifically HealthSim’s Therapeutic Education System are used. Health Sim is an interactive web program that treats health issues associated with chemical dependency. Clients work through the program on an individual basis, by doing exercises and being assigned homework. Their progress is monitored electronically.

The staff includes three LCSWs, a psychologist and a psychiatrist.

Extras

A family program is offered at 1 pm on Sundays, followed by visitation from 2 pm to 4 pm. The workshops accommodate up to three adults per family. Additionally, both the client and the client’s counselor must approve the visitation. There is an Al-Anon meeting held at 6 pm in the Siebert Center on campus for families requiring additional support.

The rehab provides interventions that are professionally handled by staff.

In Summary

Oasis Renewal Center provides a wonderful balance, providing comprehensive care against a remote setting that allows clients an opportunity to have both socialization and solitude while they begin their recovery. This is not the most affordable place, but it provides a solid 12-step foundation in a beautiful location.
