Oasis Counseling InternationalThe Basics

Since March 1990, in Norfolk, Nebraska, Oasis Counseling International has been offering behavioral health treatment with a specifically Christian perspective. Oasis offers adult and adolescent substance abuse clients an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), an Individual Outpatient track and aftercare, on top of a plethora of extra mental health and counseling services. Despite deep Christian roots, Oasis allows clients to choose whether they want a spiritual component in their treatment plan. In cases where clients do not want to include the religious aspect, Oasis offers CBT as the alternative. Oasis utilizes the 12 steps and offers dual-diagnosis support, but refers those who need detox services to the local hospital.

Treatment and Staff

The Oasis IOP runs 10 hours a week, and lasts a total of 12 weeks. Clients take part in group three times a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) for three hours per day and meet with their counselor for an individual session once a week, for one hour. Topics discussed in group cover the principles of the 12 steps, substance abuse education and developing coping strategies. CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are utilized in both the group and individual sessions. Clients are also encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings in the community.

The Individual Outpatient track is specifically designed for those who have been assessed to have substance abuse and behavioral health issues that would best be addressed on a one-on-one basis. Clients have an initial evaluation determines the ongoing level of care. The minimum is one hour-long individual session a week and the maximum is three.

Oasis employs 11 MFTs, as well as three psychologists, some of whom have special training in addiction studies. Maximum occupancy for group meetings is six to seven clients at a time, while groups also require a minimum of two to three clients to occur.

Extras

Those who complete Individual Outpatient, IOP or have undergone residential treatment elsewhere are eligible for the Oasis aftercare program, which focuses on relapse prevention and maintenance therapy to address issues that threaten ongoing sobriety.

Some of the notable extras offered by Oasis would include the “Befriend Mentoring Program” which offers mentoring ministry outreach. They also offer support for children and adolescents, couples therapy and marriage therapy, as well as family therapy. Oasis also treats gambling addiction, sex addiction, offers outpatient treatment for sex offenders and anger management. Oasis utilizes play therapy for child clients and even offers in-home mental health services. Services can be offered in Spanish.

In Summary

Oasis Counseling International is an obvious choice for anyone in Norfolk, Nebraska needing treatment who is of the Christian persuasion. However, the services offered by Oasis are solid even from a secular perspective. As the spiritual component of treatment is optional and cost of treatment is economical.
