The Basics
Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, NuWay House, Inc. is an expansive, non-profit organization founded in 1966. It provides treatment and sober living programs to clients in recovery from addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to its structured living environments, the facilities also provide flexible outpatient care.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop individualized treatment plans. Although detox is not available, those in need can get referrals to outside facilities. Treatment programs are available for both men and women with dual diagnosis support built in—in fact, the organization is the first in the nation to provide integrated treatment for addiction and mental illness.
While the specifics may vary, all treatment plans include both individual and group therapy that utilize evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. Clients are also exposed to the Hazelden model which includes 12-step recovery principles. Group sessions cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, case management, coping skills and addiction education.
The staff at NuWay House consists of LMFTs, CADCs, LADCs, RNs, LPNs, LCSWs, psychologists and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Those attending outpatient therapy are welcome to live in one of NuWay’s supportive living communities while in treatment. Case management help may include additional services such as liaising with local government bodies on behalf of clients, vocational skills, job placement help and aftercare planning.
