The Basics
Nova Counseling Services is a multi-faceted treatment organization based out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It provides many different services for clients struggling with addiction and substance abuse issues. All programs are led by a team of professionals and offer 12-step oriented care with an individualized approach. In addition to its residential and outpatient treatment plans, the facility also has a 90-day sober living program for men at Terra House.
Accommodations and Amenities
Terra House is a normal residential home with room for 10 to 12 men. Rooms are typically shared and include basic decorations, twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. In addition to the bedrooms, the home also comes equipped with a living room area, cable TV and WiFi, therapy rooms and a fully-equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
As with other sober living homes, all residents are expected to obey a basic house behavioral contract and to remain in good standing with the staff and the other members. All clients must keep their rooms and the common areas clean.
In general, the program also has four stages which clients move through. In the first stage, residents develop a personalized plan and are required to attend three to four 12-step meetings a week. In stage two, clients continue to develop their plans, begin working on Step Four and then start working a job, going to school or volunteering. In stage three this largely continues and clients become start to take on more responsibilities and they can earn overnight passes. Finally, stage four has residents working on Step Five and developing discharge plans.
The staff at Nova Counseling Services includes house managers and state-certified CSACs, many of whom are in recovery.
Extras
As mentioned, the Nova Counseling Services also offers outpatient plans, which can be attended concurrently with sober living. Those who complete any of these programs can also work with staff members to develop stepped down aftercare plans or to find permanent housing.

Overall, Nova Counseling Services provides a stable and straightforward sober living home for men in Terra House. The program is 12-step based and lets residents run their own lives while staying busy throughout the day with school, work or volunteerism. Residents can also attend outpatient treatment while staying in the home as well. While those who are earlier in the recovery process and need medical supervision may need to find additional help, Terra Counseling Services’ sober living program for men remains a strong resource for those in the area.
