The Basics
Based out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Nova Counseling Services is a broad behavioral health organization that offers flexible programs to clients struggling with addiction and substance abuse issues. Programs available are primarily 12-step oriented and are supervised by a team of state-certified addiction professionals. Though the organization also offers residential treatment and sober living, those seeking more flexible care can also attend outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants must submit a cleared physical exam from a doctor ensuring that they have no communicable diseases. After that, each client works with staff members to develop their own care plan. Typically speaking, outpatient services are used as a step-down or aftercare option. While more flexible outpatient options are also available, IOP typically meets two to three times a week for roughly three hours per session. The facility does not offer detox and those in need of additional services ought to pursue them elsewhere.
In the program, clients attend group and family therapy sessions as well as educational lectures covering 12-step recovery principles, life skills, trigger identification and relapse prevention. As the program does not offer dual diagnosis support or medication management, discussions are limited to basic life and spiritual guidance and talk therapy.
The staff at Nova Counseling Services consists of 10 state-certified CSACs, many of whom are also in recovery.
Extras
Gender-specific counseling services are also available as necessary. Men attending outpatient programs can also be placed in Nova Counseling Services’ sober living while they attend therapy as well. Although the outpatient programs are designed to function as aftercare plans themselves, participants can work with staff members to further step these services down or else find permanent housing solutions.

In all, Nove Counseling Services provides a basic approach to treating addiction and substance abuse without too many frills. In addition to its more intensive residential program, outpatient care is available as a step-down option and includes much of the same material—namely 12-step integration, educational groups and basic life skills guidance.
