The Basics
The Pavilion Hospital at Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a psychiatric facility that offers outpatient chemical dependency treatment. Located in Amarillo, Texas, it is a state of the art hospital dedicated to creating a safe and individualized approach to wellness and recovery.
Open for more than four decades, Northwest Texas Healthcare System employs a team of mental health professionals who use evidence-based methods as well as the 12-step framework to assist clients in their recovery and to promote the development of life skills.
Treatment and Staff
NTHS enrolls clients struggling with chemical dependency in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for treatment. Prior to enrollment, the treatment team works with all potential clients to determine their unique needs and to provide psychiatric stabilization if needed. Clients may stay for a short inpatient stay to receive a medical detox prior to beginning the program.
The IOP track has flexible treatment hours with sessions scheduled in the evenings Monday through Thursday and during the day Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 1:45 pm. Each client works with a case manager to create an individualized treatment plan. Average treatment duration is two to three weeks.
The program incorporates the 12-step model of recovery with group and individual therapy scheduled regularly. Some groups are also tailored specifically to psychoeducation and dual diagnosis support. The program is abstinence based, and clients are expected to refrain from using alcohol and drugs—including excessive prescription drugs. Groups are led by LDACs, CSWs and Master’s-level clinicians. Clients are also seen by psychiatric nurses and psychiatrists for additional screenings and medication management. Development of social skills, self-awareness and autonomy are key components of recovery at NTHS.
Extras
The IOP track is a family-centered program. Families are encouraged to attend family therapy sessions and to remain connected to the recovery process as much as possible. An aftercare component is also available for clients who have completed the program. Clients can attend weekly meetings as long as they want.
