The Basics
Northwest Community Counseling Services is a private organization that offers comprehensive therapeutic care to individuals, couples and families. Located in Illinois with branches in Crystal Lake and West Dundee, NCCS offers individualized treatment for substance abuse primarily through individual therapy, allowing clients to tackle their issues with privacy and flexibility. DUI programs are also available.
Treatment and Staff
NCCS offers one-on-one therapy and psychiatric services as well as structured DUI programs. Prior to entering a program, clients undergo a biopsychosocial evaluation. For those in need of a more acute program after intake, referrals to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), detox and residential tracks are made upon request.
After the initial assessment which helps identify problem areas and goals for behavior change and application of therapy methods. All substance abuse treatment is offered as individual therapy, which usually takes place once a week for hour-long sessions. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used. When it comes to the 12 steps, those who participate in therapy are welcome to attend meetings during their free time, although they are not a requirement. If clients wish to discuss the steps with their therapist during one-on-one sessions, they can do so.
The 11 member staff includes LADCs, LCSWs, CADCs, psychiatrists and Master’s-level therapists. DUI groups are usually no more than 15 clients at once.
Extras
Treatment for DUIs requires an initial evaluation to determine the appropriate protocol which includes a mixture of group and individual therapy. Topics focus on substance abuse education and relapse prevention. In addition, marriage classes, EMDR, women’s groups, family groups, adolescent groups and a writing group are offered periodically.

Northwest Community Counseling Services offers evidence-based and private care to assist those suffering with substance abuse and mental health issues. All outpatient options use an individualized approach to recovery. While these programs are usually short-term, NCCS is a great start on the road to sobriety.
