Northside Group, a subsidiary organization of Ramsay Health Care, is an Australia-based health network with clinics in Greenwich, Wentworthville, Macarthur, Cremorne, Brookvale (outpatient only) and St. Leonards (which has yet to open as of this publication). While the specific services of each facility may differ, Northside Group is broadly dedicated to providing flexible and personalized healthcare services to clients struggling with behavioral health issues. Depending on location, these services include help for addiction, mental illness, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
The Northside Group’s services are broad—all told, the organization has 88 beds available in Greenwich, 73 in Wentworthville, 36 in Macarthur, 36 in Cremorne and 112 at St Leonards. The specifics of each site are likely to vary though both private and shared rooms are available, each with twin beds, nightstands, desks and basic decor. All of the facilities are relatively clinical though they also include common areas with television, therapy rooms and on-site cafeterias. Throughout their stay, all residents are served three meals a day plus snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs. With on-site psychiatric and medical staff, those seeking detox or stabilization services can often do so on-site before continuing to treatment. While each treatment plan is individualized, all programs seek to treat clients on psychological, physical, nutritional and social levels.
As far as therapy is concerned, residents attend full days of both group and individual therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT and psychoeducation. Still, residents also attend life skills groups, exercise classes, nutritional groups, social skills groups and much more. Those in treatment for eating disorders also attend supervised eating sessions and work with dietitians on their health needs. Dual diagnosis support including medication management is also available. While 12-step participation can be used as well, it is not always required.
The staff at the Northside Groups consists of doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, case managers, dietitians and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Physical exercise is also emphasized in treatment with activities like Tai Chi, as well as a range of classes in cardio, boxing and weight training. As mentioned above, those seeking more flexible care can outpatient day programs for a range of needs as well. Once someone completes one of the programs above, they can also work with staff members to develop discharge and aftercare plans.
Overall, the Northside Group provides a wide range of services for clients struggling with many different behavioral health issues. All treatment plans are individualized and include medical and psychiatric oversight, evidence-based treatment and life skills education. Flexible lengths of stay are available and residents are treated from a variety of perspectives. Though the cost of these programs may vary by insurance and program specifics, Northside Group’s residential programs remain a strong option for Australians seeking behavioral healthcare.
