The Basics
Based in Flagstaff, Arizona, Northern Arizona Substance Abuse Services (NASAS) was created to help clients struggling with alcoholism, substance abuse and anger management issues. NASAS provides outpatient treatment for addiction and alcoholism, and offers workshops and classes to fulfill state requirements for those who have been cited with DUIs or have other legal concerns. NASAS is dedicated to creating individualized treatment plans for each client, as everyone’s specific needs and concerns are different and therefore must be treated as such. Through treatment, NASAS helps clients develop healthy lifestyles, gain confidence and learn coping skills. The mission of NASAS is to help clients “reduce the harm their use of substances causes in their lives.” NASAS respects the client’s right to live the kind of life they choose, whether that be complete sobriety or control over alcohol consumption in a way that doesn’t negatively impact their lives or health.
Treatment and Staff
NASAS offers a broad range of outpatient services for adults and their families. An initial alcohol screening and assessment of the client’s specific history and needs forms the basis for an individualized treatment plan. Should a client require detox, he or she is referred to another treatment facility for that service. Most plans consist of a combination of individual and group therapy which are usually scheduled in one-hour sessions four to six days a week. This therapy is CBT based. Twelve-step meetings are also encouraged during treatment and after treatment, and Alanon is recommended and made available for the client’s family members. Aftercare is provided in the form of ongoing educational opportunities, support groups, life skills groups and relapse prevention education.
The staff at NASAS is comprised of licensed professionals who hold the credentials of LDAC/LDAC, LPC and social workers.

NASAS also provides DUI/ SA education, DUI/ SA treatment programs, substance abuse classes and anger management classes.
